remove the screws at the top and bottom of the trim ring
around the gauges, and I think you might have to take the
cover off of the steering column.

Remove the 4 screws that hold the instrument cluster into the dash,
and undo the wires and the speedo drive cable, unless it's electronic
and a wire.

The bulbs are on the back of the cluster, they have a holder that twists
to remove, replace the burned bulbs with the right new bulb, and reverse
steps to put it all back together

I found that the small bulbs in my Samurai were E74, a slightly smaller European size, and the holder would not accept the standard 74 size. The larger bulbs are a standard 194 size, and easily replaced with new.

I'm thinking of going to LEDs with the small lamps. I'll need some of each: 3-green, 5-red ,1-blue. You can buy them already mounted in the twist-lock holders at superbrightleds.com. But I'm NOT going to replace the battery lamp, as the higher current is needed to get the get the alternator started.  And it's almost never ON, so it can't burn out.
