Oil pressure safety switch

I'm installing a NAPA low flow fuel pump into a 89, 1.6, 8v, carb system.  It STRONGLY RECOMMENDS to install an oil pressure safety switch.  Question is: Does the 1.6 already have one or do I need to buy it.  If it does have one, where is it located?  The engine orginally was EFI, but I'm using the 88.5 Sammi 1.3 intake with carb.

No it never had one, but I think their
interest is in selling you more parts.

my old 73 chevy vega had one, can't be more than three bucks for it, a few more you could buy a whole vega  ;D

Although I haven't yet (and should have), the safety switch is a good idea...  In the event of a roll over or catostrphic crash and the motor stalls, the fuel pump will continue pumping.  If you are unconcious and there is a breach in the fuel line, gas will keep on pumping.  Not a good situation.....
The switch prevents  this from happening. No oil pressure, no fuel.......

You sure about that?
There's a transducer on the front of the block - isn't that what drives the oil pressure light?  If so, that would do the trick.

I thought he wanted to have a low oil
PSI engine shutdown, yes the pressure
switch on the engine does drive the light
on the dash, but it will not kill the motor
in event of low oil PSI.

wouldn't a auto meter pro light work better with like a 30psi sender.  then you could just shut it off your self and know whats going on.

The stock sending unit is not a cutoff switch, it just turns the dash oil light on if you have low pressure.  It's not designed to handle the current from a pump, unless you use it to drive a relay that the pump is attached to.  

I'm running an electric fuel pump with my 87 Sammy 1.3 motor, and I installed an oil pressure cutout switch so that the fuel pump shuts down if I roll the vehicle.  If I remember correctly, it's from an S-10.  I pulled the sending unit off the side of the block that controls the dash light, installed a brass tee fitting and screwed the factory pressure sender onto one side and the new cutoff switch on the other.  I've got my fuel pump wired through it such that it will shut down if I lose oil pressure.

IF YOU'RE RUNNING AN ELECTRIC FUEL PUMP AND OFFROADING, HAVING AN AUTOMATIC FUEL CUTOFF IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
