i would simply start with a pair of truck gate hinge thingys from one of them tinny datsans or something also find a junker tail gate if u can then goto town just keep test fitting and drawing out diff ideas then transfer them to templates to see if u can make it a reality

thats acctually a really good idea..i hate that the gate has suck a massive swing radius it sucks when my mom parks behind me becuase shes always like 2 feet away lol

You still need a swing away tire carrier, the tire is too
heavy to lower like that.

Aw, c'mon Darrin, pump some iron!  If you start with a 205X75-15 on there, and open and close it 10 times per day, you should be able to work up to a 33 within six or seven months!   ;)

Maybe a tirecarier that latches at the bottom so that when you put the gate down it becomes sortof like a leg? ??? or step?

Just a thought I don't know if it could be done. ;) Anyone with a project wanna try? ;D

It sounds like a great idea, but alot of work. It seems that it would be best to make the tire swing away and then the tailgate come down.  The new F150s use a torsion assist on their tailgates, which is suppose to make it alot easier to lift it, if you want the tire to come down with it.
