My TN_Tracker-styled tailgate rack and PVC snorkel
« on: May 16, 2004, 06:36:08 PM »
So I had some free time today, which I decided to spend on making some stuff for the Tracker.

First up is my TN_Tracker-styled tailgate rack. It's not a direct copy, since I don't keep a spare on the back, but rather cut the spare tire mount off and left about 1" of metal sticking out, which I welded the rack to. Here are some pics:

I can carry a gas can or a cooler, if I find one that is small enough to slip inside the angle pieces:

I also made a snorkel out of PVC pipe and some of the rubber fittings that came on the airbox of the Tracker. I'm going to add a little tube on the outside curly part where it goes into the fender with a drain plug in the bottom to attempt to catch any moisture that gets sucked in.

I still have to paint it/coat it with something and fix up the hole that I made in the fender to look a little better than it does now.

This is a mock-up from earlier in the day... the finished tube isn't that long (it's about 8" shorter):

Nice to see my rack was an inspiration for you.

Question though, where's your spare?

I'm a Proud Member of Team BlueRibbon Coalition & Tread Lightly, are you?

I broke the body mount bolt on that sied, and a ratchet strap is much easier to use than fixing it right ;)

My spare I throw in the back, since it's not fullsized and looked funny on the tailgate. :)

I painted it today but didn't take any pics yet... looks pretty slick, IMO. Much better than the white PVC.
