Trackick FI fuel filter question
« on: August 06, 2006, 06:24:09 PM »
hi,

1.6, 8v, FI '91 Tracker.  is it really necessary to keep using the original stye fuel filter or can it be changed to a newer style and relocated to make it easier to do?  i was thinking of one of the cheaper metal, glass, or plastic fuel filters if possible and moving it into the engine compartment for a cheaper and easier (read: more frequent) change.  thanks in advance for your input.

i just changed the fuel filter in my 92 sidekick with the 8v, and its much easier to replace it with the one that is supposed to use, than to spend all the time finding one that might work then relocating it, if its the one thats right in front of the gas tank, why would you relocate it in the engine compartment it wouldnt do what it was meant to do.

I just changed my filter on my 4 door 16v today.  I got gas down my arm to my armpit >:(

I would be easier if it were in a diffrent place, but it was still easy to do.

yep, same with me today.  and the bracket holding the filter is pretty weak and the bolt holding it was broken off by the PO.  now it has hose clamps and heavy zip ties holding it in place.  hence the desire for another option.
