Mystery vacuum line . . .
« on: July 23, 2009, 07:23:04 AM »
Can someone please identify this vacuum relay/switch. It has three ports and lives on the firewall just to the left of the distributor. The two paired vacuum lines are connected, one to the intake manifold, the second to what I believe is the vacuum servo which operates the secondaries of the carburetor.

The real question is the unconnected single port on the right side of the this relay/switch, is it supposed to connect somewhere or remain closed off?

Thanks for any help . . .

Sorry for the missing information . . . 87 Samurai JK Tintop, manual tranny, 1.3L  stock. The hood sticker does not show a terminated vacuum port which leads me to not knowing exactly what this thing is. If the single tube is removed the engine sputters (vacuum leak is created). put it back on and it is normal. I''m inclined just to leave it be . . . and move on the installation of the rebuilt carburetor and temp the CA smog check again. But it does seem strange to have this plugged port, perhaps it is for factory testing or something. I have not found anything in my Chilton's manual either.

Thanks for your help.

So basically you are saying everything is fine until you pull it off.
Well, my solution is, "don't pull it off".
It could be an advance for the auto trans, a diagnostics port, or sometimes car manufacturers buy generic valves for cheap and they have an extra port they just plug them.
