Need Pictures
« on: December 22, 2004, 07:26:37 PM »
I really need pictures from a service manual with pictures of the front manual hub assy. I purchased another Tracker for my wife and when the right hub is locked it makes a gear sound and the right hub is always locked if set to free or not. I was just going to get a hub from the junk yard but was wondering what was broken and if the gear noise was that hub or a bearing in the front diff. that makes noise when that half shaft is spinning.

That's a not enguaged hub that
grinds, probably rusty and can't
get the splines to enguage

I don't think any of my stuff ever covered
the hubs, they aren't hard, make drawings or
take notes, a few of the parts have to go back
in a certain way, and there is a spring that
hooks onto the hub knob, I have a hub here,
I can take apart and get some pics of how it
works if needed, I should make it a part of my
site for those of you who have to take them apart

It is engaged when I lift the truck up. But turning it to Free does not release the splines. I need to wait for things to clear up before I remove and can't get the front hub to lock again. Is a bearing other than the wheel hub on the back side that the half shaft enters? I guess I will purchase a repair manual tomorrow when I am out. Of course when I changed my Tracker over to larger axles I sold all the original parts. LOL

???
huh, I didn't understand that last one

OK there are 2 bearings, both hold the
wheel hub (not lockout hub) onto the
spindle, you can remove the lockout hub
and the half shafts without disurbing the
wheel bearings, there is one clip that holds
the stub of the half thru the spindle, remove
that and with the right amount of turn the
wheel and lift the frame the half shaft will
slide out

Sounds to me like the splines in the hub
are rusty, and stuck or hardened grease
is preventing the splines from moving out
of the engaged position, easy fix.

Well I see my problem from using the pictures from the above diagram. My clutch is not attached to the assy. When I removed the front plate I just had a spring and follower pawl. I guess I will replace the hubs with aftermarket units. Autozone sells replacement units for $88 complete and I can't think of the company (Not Warn) but they are the ones in the ads that show them replacing the Winch on the Hummers in the battle field?  Maybe Mile-Marker? If your using other Hubs than Factory what are you using? Thanks

Waste of $$  don't do it, fix
your better than aftermarket
hubs and be proud of your work

You mean Milemarkers, I understand
that the aftermarkets can get loose
and don't stay tight, even after repeated
retorquing of the screws, and all of the torque
that front wheel gets goes thru those 6 bolts

I guess I will go to the yard Monday and get a Hub. Mine has broken pieces compared to the photos.

The tabs on the follower pawl are gone from wear and are no longer holding the clutch. Does Suzuki sell a service kit?

I don't know about repair kits,
there isn't usually much wear
in a hub, so I don't think a repair
kit will be available, but you could
check, or get a used hub and R&R
or swap parts or something like
that.

Send/post a pic of what you got,
I would like to see what happened
in there

E-mail it to me if you need to and I'll
post it, I'm on dialup so reduce the
