New addition...another 90 Tracker
« on: June 30, 2010, 12:35:59 AM »
Just picked up this rig.  90 Tracker LSi, with a 5spd.  I know the guy, he is a maintenance worker at the shopping center I work at, and he mentioned he'd sell it because he found another car and he had a problem with this...
Long story, he replaced the clutch a month ago.  Replaced the clutch cable a few weeks ago, must have over tightened it, and bound up the cable, because he ended up breaking the clutch pedal when he mashed down on it because the cable was bound up somewhere.  So I gotta fix that.  Other than that, it seems OK.  Starts and runs.  Check Engine light is on  ???
He drove it to work every day, so it can't be that bad!  I never paid much attention to it, because he always had it parked way in the back where we work, so I hardly ever saw it.  It's in rougher shape than I imagined when I went to see it tonight, but fixable.  The left front corner was messed up, he tried to fix it and got a new hood, the fender and some of the frame is still really banged up, but it's doable as an "extra" rig.  Interior is OK but missing stuff.
I figure, what the hell, the price was right, I better pick it up because he was moving and had to have it gone by the 1st (tomorrow).  I won't let the little things bother me (like my tintop) because it's nowhere near perfect.  This will be the "rougher" one of the two.
Came with four chrome OE rims.  Was that even an option back then, or did someone, somewhere along the line, have some stockers chromed?
Like I said, I figured, what the hell, might as well have two... ;) It's worth it in parts...5.12 gears, LSi split rear seats, interior parts, etc.  I could part it out but I'd rather keep it whole and running and iron out the problems
If anything, it's now motivation to get my tintop running again, replace the clutch so I can drive it, because I've been driving the bigger truck for the past few weeks.  Motivation to replace my clutch so I can begin to tinker on this one...
Don't know yet what I'm going to do with it...
Spent the day cleaning out my garage, only to have it filled back up by tonight with another car in the family...

I think the chrome wheels were an option. My uncle had a 90 lsi with them on it also. By the way it doesn't look as bad of shape as the one i bought back in the first of spring. I hated to junk it also because it runs and drives better than any i've ever had. It had been rear ended twice in the driver rear corner. but spent nearly its whole life pulled behind a RV. I cut the rear quarter off put another one and tailgate on had the frame pulled and is now my daily driver.

I would rather have another Suzuki than vacation any day also, but the wife and kids don't see it the same way i do. I am always out numbered.

Yeah . . . one of the nicest Zuks I've seen.
Not that there's anything wrong with that  :)
Looks like I'll be buying two Zukiworld windshield banners soon instead of just one...

So opinions:  should I make it a budget car, use some coil spacers or 4dr springs, and maybe a body lift, running some cheap tires (which I have time and money to do)...
or...
build it on some toyota axles and make a hell of a crawler out of it (which I have the money but no time to devote to it since I work so often)?
It's definitely too nice to hack up the body like I dream of doing (like a 2-seater with a flatbed), so the body will stay intact.

Ay, they way I see it, if September rolls around and deer hunting starts, and something suddenly happens to my tintop and I can't drive it, at least now I have a backup 4x4 that can get where my fullsize truck don't fit
God put me on earth to accomplish a certain number of things.  Right now I am so far behind, I will never die.

Chrome wheels were available from the factory.  I have seen a few of the 6 triangle hole wheels that have been chrome.  I have 2 four-door sidekick limiteds that have the factory chrome round hole wheels.

Have you been drinkin?  Yours is way nicer than mine and Duane has rolled that Sammy over a couple times since you last saw it.  I'd have to throw in a few more Zuks to be comparable to yours!
