     The mega Squirt that you are running.......does it by pass the fuel side of the stock ECU?

Or how does it blend with the exsisting electronics....?

The systems share the same fuel supply and pump,
I used another regulator after the stock (TBI) one
and that is what controls the fuel pressure to both
systems.

The two computers run independent from each other,
only sharing the IAT and CLT sensors, MegaSquirt has
it's own MAP and can use a TPI but the TBI TPI is not
a POT type so is not compatable with the MS ECU.

I'm not running a TPI with the MS EFI system, and it
works fine as suplimental fuel for boost, the biggest
reason to use a TPI is to add fuel like an accelerator
pump does. 

Blend with existing electronics, I don't think they know
each other exist, Ohh I also share the  O2 sensor with
both systems.

MegaSquirt can be run in MAP mode or in Alpha-N depending
on the type of Cam you are running (MAPs don't work well with
hot cams and low idle vacuum) you can also run the MS with
alternating fuel injectors (every other cycle squirts) or simultanious
injection (all injectors squirt) and up to 4 squirts per injection, if I
remember right.

It took me 2 nights of soldering in front of the
computer, I just used the online assembly manual
and followed all the instructions and tested the system
at each stage to verify the new circuits were working
properly.

I also got a cheep digital multi-meter at Walmart
for about $10 to test the resistors and stuff that
needed an accurate reading.

It really was a simple job, the hard part was all
the foot work to instal and calibrate the sensors
with Easy Therm, but that was me being a little lazy,
the system ran for over a year before I did the calibration

TPI or TBI
I found a Ford TPI would work from an Escort,
mount it on the other side from where the stock
Suzuki TPI is located, as it turns to other way, I
would need a throttle body spacer to get it to
clear the vacuume ports on the Auto Trans Intake.

I don't know if the Man Trans Intake is the same
ports configuration as the Auto Trans version

     It appears we are on similar wave lenghts...I've been quiestly working on modifying an Escort tuned prot manifold from a 1993 1.9L. Has a high flow rate, the right size injectors and workable TPS etc........I understand the system can even accomadate some boost.

Hmm, sounds like a winner, I hacked apart
an Escort manifold for the injector  bungs
to install on the turbo manifold.

I would say it is a good candidate for some
boost, as well as the injectors are 17 PPH
and High Ohm so you don't need to do lots
of messing around with the pulse width modulation
to limit the current flow, I used these injectors
for the Turbo SideKick, but found I couldn't get
enough fuel to run rich under boost, drove me nuts,
I tweeked the VE table and the fuel settings, not
that the Trucklet ran bad, on the otherhand, it ran
like a raped ape, but I wanted to be able to get
a 12.5-13:1 fuel ratio if I wanted to

The injectors you have in the Escort manifold are
a good size for the 1.6 to 2.0 N/A engines, a MegaSquirt
in the mix would give you the best of tuning and control.

I can't praise the MS system enough, cheep, reliable and totally
programable from a stock cruiser to a 16:1 CR  Alky Dragster
driving eight 160 PPH injectors, MS can do it

     My original plan was to adapt a 7749 GM ECU and work it out from there, but the mega squrit seems like a better option.
     The plan is to test it on a Kick 1.6/8v then the 2.0/16v swap and finally into the airplane
so this excercise will take a while.

TPI that told the computer when the throttle was
opened and WOT, and there are a few different
readings thru the sweep of the TPI, but it isn't a
linear POT type on my Trucklet, unless it's been
faulty for all these years.

Wouldn't that be a kick in the head if my not so
fantastic fuel milage were because I got a defective
TPI from the factory    I always expected the Kick
to get about 26-28 highway, but it never could, I
see some of these milage figures and wonder if I
should go straight MegaSquirt and try to tune for MPG

Might be a thought.........

     What's happening with your engine repairs/rebuilding coming?

Well I'm getting down to the wire 
I wanted to put the forged pistons into
the 8V engine, then add the turbo after
a while, but I have a vacation scheduled
for the beginning of August.

Now this wouldn't normally be a problem,
but the Wifes car is acting up, has a #3 rod
knocking and the Engine Management is all
goofy, I think it needs a reflash and the coils
replaced (distributorless TwinCam Cavalier)

so I might settle on just doing a cheep rebuild

I guess that it could well be different. I forget yours is a very early Track/Kick, ours were all carb during those years. My TPS is a 6K linear pot with a switch that tells the ECU when its at idle. You might want to check it though. but in any case its not really a good idea to parallel the MS and the stock ECU on the TPS anyway as it will throw the reading out (different source impedance)

One really cool thing about the MegaSquirt is
the way you set  the TPS, start the MegaTune
program, start the set TPS mode, put your foot
to the floor and save the reading to the MS flash
memory, you TPS is now set 

Beats the crap out of having to use a Multimeter
and having to set the TPS in a certain position
