Opinions needed on replacement top for 96 tracker.

Opinions needed on replacement top for 96 tracker.

Hi all, I am looking for a replacement soft top for a 1996 Tracker. I have found one at Pavement Ends for 199.00 and one from BestTop for 279.00.  I am looking for any opinions for which way to go. Also, do I need to purchase additional hardware to install these?

If ya order the right one, You won't need any extra hardware. ;D
I spent my money on the BestTop cause the side windows zip out but I bought it from 4WheelParts for that 279.
Remember, You get what you pay for. ;D
And my BestTop seems to be holding up well so for.

Hmmm...I think the Pavement-Ends top only goes on '88-'94 and the hardware on a '96 is different from the earlier years. Yep, just checked:

Glad to hear that BestTop is good quality since my current top is getting a kinda ratty looking!







While looking at the tops I noticed a few nice hard tops available as well.  Anyone have any experience with one of these replacement hard tops for the 2 door?



Up here in Michigan it would be really nice to have a rear defroster for the winter! The heater seems pretty strong, but I'm not sure how the soft top will be when it gets zero or below....  just wondering.

What part of Michigan are you in?

And I went with Pavement Ends for a top. So far not a complaint and it fit like a glove.

I drove mine through an Edmonton winter with the soft top...I added a quilted polyester/cotton/fleece liner over the cab portion (under the top obviously). Two huge benefits...reduced wind noise by over 25% and it kept the cold air out...even at -40 it was toasty inside  ;D

TNtracker is right about the Pavement End top only fitting up to 1994 and mine is a 96. Oh well, I guess I'll end up paying 79.00 more. A new top will make a big difference in appearance!



I'm located in the downriver suburbs of Detroit and got the tracker for my daughter last fall. It was a fun car to drive and with all the recent incentives and GM card rebate with supplier discount I recently got an '04  4WD ZR2 for myself.



Glad to hear it's possible to get comfortably through the winter with a soft top but I'm wondering about clearing frost and ice off windows on the soft top. I'm hoping to have a hard top in time for my daughter to take it to colllege this fall. Neither of us drove it last winter since I was doing body work on it and didn't insure it until this summer. I did purchase some winter tires (Bridgestone Blizzaks) for it since it's rear wheel drive. It should be fun to try it out!

Pavement Ends is made by Bestop in China. Usually the fit is great, but BT does not care if it doesn't. (They were closing out a bunch of PE tops on the Bestop web page... about $150.)

BT uses better materials in the tops w/ their name on it.

With the BT line, at least they'll usually answer your e-mail if something goes wrong.

Yep possible and comfortable...plus you still have the option to flip it partially back if the day is warm enough :)

Don't worry about the frost...it melts pretty quickly when the interior warms up....those windows are very easy to scratch up.
