Hi guys, first post here

my bud on this board (Memphis) has sparked an interest in zuki's

Basically what i need (well not NEED, but want) is a car i can use as a daily driver

i want something in 2 and  4WD, I live in canada and get ice, so something good in the winter

I want something thats good on gas ( i know i know, ZUKI!) , and something i can offroad i know i know its the suzuki;s

I also need something that i can use to tow my quad, i have a fullsize utility weighing in at ~600-700 lbs, and  a big trailer



Anywho, i was looking around and a person i know with good reputation offered me a 1994 sidekick for 1000 dollars(cdn)

its an 8valve motor, 2door convertible, 215,000 KM, Warn bush bar, 5spd 4x4, new tires and a mismatched spare, it has a bit of rust and a couple dings, he said it runs great etc, he said "its no luxo-box but a strong for its size 4x4"

i think thats about all the details, im getting pics tmw


What i was wondering is, do you think this sidekick would suit me? I would want to lift it up a bit and try to stick some bigger tires under there, put a snorkel on it and maybe some minor things but i dont offroad as much as you guys do, and when i do i use my quad.

get it, for sure. 

I'm thinking this might be the wrong board to ask if a suzuki is right for you, as the only answer you'll hear is yes 

from what I hear, depending on which region of canada you live,  a fullsize chev might be cheaper to insure

it might not like towing that much weight - even more so if you put bigger tires on it. but for a g note buy it!

They're great vehicles and very simple to own and operate.  Unless the trailer weighs 1000lbs I'd say you could do everything you wanted.  Towing might be a bit of a struggle but eh, it could do it as long as you aren't talking days long road trips up hill.

That said, having had 3 of them now, CHECK IT OVER WITH A FINE TOOTHED COMB!  Unfortunately many people treated these as "throw away" vehicles and all 3 of mine have had stupid problems that better care earlier in the vehicle's life would have prevented.  It can be stupid simple stuff to big, bad, problems that make you want to hunt down and kill people.
They also like hidden rust so pull, push, and look behind stuff for rust.

the guy had it safetied 1.5 years ago, he said it passed no probl, will sell it as is for 1000 or 1250 with safety

he said he has no prob with me taking to a mechanic to have him to a look over

 I had a 91 tracker 2dr ( 8v) with 200,000 on it and it pulled my 900 lbs tent trailer no problem.

It had 235 mud terrain tires, 3" body lift and coil spacers, the trailer was about 1200-1300 lbs with water and all my gear on board ( slowed down to 90km on a good hill )

 Mine was not rebuilt but in excellent condition, so I would get yours checked over very well, my 97 4dr pulls the trailer and doesn't break a sweat ( 16v not 8v)

 P.S. I'm in Alberta and insurance is cheap (4dr costs 500/yr, sami costs 450/yr)
 I think they consider them throw away vehicles or cheap to replace?
