Hesitation problems when I get on the throttle
« on: September 17, 2007, 04:04:05 PM »
I just recently put a rebuilt carb on my 88.5 and I'm having hesitation problems. When ever I get on the throttle it hesitates and dies. So anything over 2000 rpms and it wants to stall. I'm not able to drive it anywhere because it won't move. I got the carb from carb exchange and I'm not sure if they tested it before sending. I checked the float level, the ignition timing, idle speed, choke bore clearance; at operating temperature the choke is fully open, the accelerator pump is working (I think, I'll have to check again). I haven't check/or replaced the fuel filter, haven't checked fuel pump (though it's fairly new), and it doesn't have a carb vent tube installed yet (just ordered it). I adjusted the mixture screw by feel, not by CO tester, don't have one and I don't know how to use a duity cycle meter. One last thing that might be the problem is the carb came without a brass fitting for the purge hose coming from the charcoal canister (I just plugged it) but it runs the same with or without the plug. Can some one please help me. I'm not that savvy adjusting carbs when they are out of sync. Thanks.  ???
