Sammi MPG, I need input!

Okay so I'm going to do a yota axel swap on my trac/kick and won't be driving it for the next 2wks-6months, and need to get some thing to drive to work in. It is about a 20min drive witch is 4.5miles in 25mph zone, 3miles in 55mph zone, my wife thinks I should pick up a geo metro/ford apire to run just as a beater cause they get 50mpg or beter, I still want a 4x4 and the abillity to go wheeling  while I build the turbo/track/yota!

I found an 85 tin top sammi all, stock nice body, new cluch, and nice interior for $500 but, it uses more oil than gas, and at stoplights it disapere's in it's own stench, so.....

do i buy it, rering the motor and run it say the heck with the wife?
do i get metro make wify happy?
or do I build an eco/wheeler? say 35-45 mpg or more?

I like the eco/wheeler option so.....

diesel swap?
does a metro 3cyl use the same bell housing?
electric conversion?

what do you guy's think?

hell, i'd get a motorcycle. but im just a reckless teenager... im doing the same swap on my samurai as well, but the samurai is my secondary vehicle right now. if you want that daily driver but still want to rally it every now and then, i'd get the sammy.

Thanks but but the bike is out, as I have an allergy to asphalt(nasty rash) seat belts 4wheels and doors seem to keep the symtoms at bay

7.5 miles on a bicycle wouldn't be that bad... but you seriously should get that sammy, take the tracker off the project rack and put the toy axles on the samurai.

If the Samurai tintop is actually a Samurai then you can actually bolt the 3-cylinder 1.0 Metro engine up to the Samurai 5-speed transmission and use the ECU and wiring harness to get potentially decent mileage...

However

It is possible that you are looking at a SJ-410, which has a different kind of 1 liter engine and has a transmission bolt pattern of it's own.

Then - if it IS a Samurai - there is the gearing and transmission differences that might make a 1-liter Metro engine less of a fuel-efficient beastie that it was in the Metro....

My suggestion is to buy the Metro or the  Ford Aspire - or even a Ford Festiva (the Aspire replaced the Festiva, which I really liked - the Festiva handled like a classic Mini and got good mileage) AND the tintop.  Those puppies don't grow on trees and when you find one you HAVE to buy it!

My 2 cents...
