Samurai front wheel bearings
« on: June 27, 2005, 10:12:53 AM »
Hey guys,
I gotta put front wheel bearings on the LawDog tomorrow on my day off.  I need to drive the damn thing!  When I did the rears I remember that I had to have them pressed on to the axle stubs.  Does anyone know if the fronts need to be pressed on? I don't think so, but any clarification would be helpful and appreciated.

no,the berings do not have to be pressed in,but both races(inner and outter) have to be knocked out and the old and new seals also.

The "knocking out" process is not that hard, either.  There is plenty of exposed lip to rest a tool on for whacking.  Just remenber to get the bearings with both the inner and outer races. Bearings and races are often sold separately, so check the box at the counter to make sure you get everything.

Good luck!

Yup, thanks guys.  Got everything bearings races, etc. only to find that the old bearing had gotten so bad that it welded itself to the spindle.  Couldn't get it off for the life of me.  Tried a puller w/ impact and everything.  Good thing I have a parts Sammi that I am picking up next Wed.  I'll swipe a hub and spindle assembly off of that and put the new bearings in it.

I'm about 30mins south of Buffalo.  Where are you?? ah, I see, Nicholson Pa it says in your profile.  That's a pretty far haul for me.  I'm getting that parts truck from Utica, NY on Wed. so I'll stick with that plan.  Thanks a bunch for the offer though, i appreciate it.

By the way, I saw you wanted to go to Paragon in August.  I dunno if I can get there then, and I'm sure my man RealRedWagon's kick won't be ready, but did you see my Arctic Wheeling post in the Adv. Forum.  Paragon has a weekend run in December and I wanted to give it a try.

Dude, don't drive all that way just to bring me a part.  I thought you were gonna be in 'Cuse for something.  I appreciate the gesture, but that's a long trip for you!
