Speed sensors
« on: November 22, 2008, 09:50:16 PM »
Does anyone know if the speed sensors are the same between the 16v and the 1.8l ? I'm thinking about swapping a 1.8l into my project and know that I need the comp, wire harness etc but was wondering if the ss are the same and are they always located in the speedo?
Thanks

Not sure on the 1.6 16V vs. the 1.8L.  I know they are different between the 1.6 16V and the 1.6 8V.

All the VSS ECUs require a VSS signal, not so important on a buggy as it is on a DD. There are only 2 types and only one is a direct screw in on the Samurai speedo. The one you need looks like this. The other one is encased in white plastic and will not fit the Samurai speedo cluster.

IIRC, that is one from a 16V trackick.
The ones that are encased in white plastic will work (because I have read on zuwharrie on how to modify them to fit), but they plastic has to be cut for them to fit.

Is that what that's for?  I just tore apart my speedo to fix a problem and thought it was some sort of weird light thing.  :P

Thanks for the pics and explanation. I got looking at some wiring diagrams and it shows the 16v SS as having one wire and the 1.8l SS as having 2 wires so I'm guessing that I will need the one from the 1.8l donor? I also have a cluster from a newer GV, would that have the same one as the 1.8l? I don't have a wiring diagram for the newer trucks to compare with.
