So here is the body I want to drop on a suzuki chassis
« on: November 22, 2008, 03:34:16 AM »

Thats just an auction picture of it but I have it home finally and will hopefully get to work on it this winter if I can make room in my tiny garage.
I'll be looking for a donor suzuki maybe one that has been in an accident so I wont feel bad about the cutting up of the body if need be.

I cant help thinking about just how easy it will be to stuff some big tires under this with baja fenders on it sitting on a lift with what will most likely amount to a body lift also.

I've started down a long dark trail.

On one hand, that's pretty cool.

On the other, I forgot how ugly those convertibles where.

I like the way those old bugs look and I like the options it allows as far as wheel clearance and the convertible will be nice in the summer here in michigan but if it has a suzuki chassis under I cant help but think of how easy it will be to work on and it should be very reliable.

We like 2 seaters and will most likely just have a massive storage space behind the seats and who knows what I'll stick back there.(maybe some brown paper bags to hide our faces.... :-[)

I'm just giving you a hard time.  :D

Not a big fan of the way they changed the back of the lines to have more room for the rear seat.  What would be cool is to put classic style curved back on it, and a rumble seat!

Thats OK, I can take it. I'm always up for a good ribbing.

I wish I had the money right now for the chassis donor (perfect one on EBAy now) but with it being winter here now and the holidays I'm busy/broke.
I have my tracker (even though its a 2d) out there next to the bug and I want to start doing some measuring to see how things might work out.

My main concerns right now are using the VW trunk as an engine compartment and the space at my feet and how I might have to change/move the firewall.
I dont think the radiator and stuff will be an issue just by looking at the two and I could always raise the body enough to fit that stuff in but I will need the trunk lid turned hood to flow the air.

I think overall the two vehicles are close to the same width but the bug on the inside is a lot smaller.

When I really get into it I'll start a proper build thread as I  expect this post to fad away over time do to lack of progress this winter.

Here is a picture of the two side by side and there is a lot of space in the but trunk for an engine.

It was a long time ago, but I saw a 350 stuffed into a bug.  The radiater was in the rear with the hatch pulled away 3-4 inchs and a couple fans of it.

The "hood" had loovers cut into the top so that heat could get out.

And lastly on the back he had a jiant key that was on the back of the bug and it rotated.  It made it look like a wind up toy.  :P
