TIME TO SHOW UP MORE LANDROVERS!!!!
« on: October 01, 2005, 05:39:55 AM »
Anyone who has read through my other threads will know that i hate land rovers....  and with my friend recently buying 1983 110 powered by a 3.5ltr V8 we got in an argument about off roading... so we have agreed to have a hard core day off competing all around the island... the only trouble is, most of the stuff over here is possible in both vehicles... so we are gonna have to find something new to try...

Either that or just go on the beach and have a drag race... that should sort out a few arguments lol!

Hmmm, be careful.   My last landrover was awesome.  If you want to smoke the guy, do it on short choppy inclines and sharp approaches/ departures.

Can't have you looking foolish now, can we.

Drag racing on the beach would work, but only because of power:weight ratio.

If your freind goes for that,  he's daft.

 ;)

i don't want to start an argument here but ... i don't know what zuk you've got, but my dad's rover beats the heck out of my tracker 95% of the time - both are close to stock

it cost twice as much to buy and three times as much to maintain though

i've got a lot of respect for the solid axled rovers, underneath their leather and walnut interiors (in the USA at least) are some stout compontents that are simple to maintain and modify

well... i must say thats something i nevre thought i'd hear on the zuki forum... but then again, lots of landy owning buddies say the same thing about the zuks...  so its hard to tell....

my neighbour owns a 2 door discovery with 4.6ltr V8 that has been off to the main land to get chips an all sorts done to it.... and he admits to getting stuck places where we go quite easily... i guess they have there pros an cons both of em....

anyways.... i have a set of the most aggressive mud tires u will ever see... so at least if it rains an makes everything muddy then we will have the grip

we should be doing it within the next 2 weeks... so i'll make a score board to show u all... and if we have a good camera we'll make a movie

Ain't nothing wrong with Land Rovers...

Just the attitude of the people who drive them (well over here in the UK, anyway)

yeah... its definately the attitude that comes with owning a land rover...

land rover owners refuse to let us wheel with them over here... i know that its the Landy club... but were only a bunch of lads who love driving in the mud and doing cool stuff in our 4x4s.. ah well

just while i think about it... does anyone else wave when they see another zuki driver?

cos i do it to everyone i see.... and some of them look quite suprised... others wave back... which is cool!!

 ???What attitude ???

Like I said, I used to be a landrover owner.....didn't take much to make me seriously consider and then buy a sidekick.

The defender is the only way to go though....discovery was always intended as a compromise, therefore never truely as competent.  Worth looking at the camel trophy cars, speaks volumes.

I used to go green-laneing with all makes of 4 by 4s, and a modified zuk is as good as it gets for the money.   This, I think is the crucial factor...the ingenuity required to go where others dare not, and all that on a very tight budget.

I think you might be talking about the folks who buy landies (or heeps) for the image alone....townies with big "cars" they don't understand....

no no no... first of all.... the defender is the way forwards... yes and no... the serious off road landies are defender bodies put on a range rover/discovery chassis... the discovery is the best off roader land rover make (not the disco 3. thats a different story all together)  but looks wise... the defender is the best looking.

i know a lot of landy owners and they all seem to have the same attitude towards us... they look down on us because we dont drive what they do... im not talking about chavs in there brand new shiny things... im talkin real landy enthusiasts/users...

several of my friends have landies (2 with series three, 1 with an early 90 and 1 with one of the first 110's) and ever since theyve got them, they gang up against us zuki owners.... we try telling them each vehicle has its perks (even though the 2.5 N/A deisel puts out only 3 hp more then our little 1.3s!!!) but they wont have it....they want to be the best... but the fact of the matter is... we always show them up!!!
on the road and on the dirt. but as long as 4x4s arent involved we all get along fine.

land rover owners... they just really bug me...

I owned a 1984 Range Rover (up until a year ago) that was imported from Canada.  It was a good rig.  They're well rounded in that they wheel ok, they're way comfy (soft-riding) offroad, they can haul a medium load, you can sleep in the back, and so on.  However, my little samurai was 10x's better offroad.  And reliability was a big factor.  I had to convert it to GM alternator/HEI ignition just to improve its reliability and it still would cause me grief with headlights going out, wipers stopping, fuses blowing (bad overall wiring = Lucas Wiring).  Rovers have always had neat power train, axles, and other components but I most happy with my samurai.

What attitude? If I had a pound for every time my truck has been called Jap Crap by a Landie owner I'd have.... some pounds. ::)

SlimJim you are obviously one of the enlightened ones.

and Landies have their fair share of problems as well - every time I go out in the mud theres a V4 Rangie misfiring away, or a Defender or 90 with a broken half shaft....

and the Aussie guys on here will tell us which vehicle they will choose to drive hundreds and hundreds of miles acroos the deserted outback - it ain't one with a green oval on it...

Cheers
