Tracker Body Swap
« on: March 17, 2007, 01:07:51 AM »
i want to take a 91 tracker 2dr body and put it on a 94 tracker 2dr frame. im concerned about the 91 tracker donor is a tin top and  has an 8 valve auto trans, where as my current tracker is 16 valve manual trans. besides the obvious electrical and wiring harness, is it possible or any insight that may be useful, to swap the body?

thanks  shane.

I thought about it, I have a REALLY REALLY REALLY CLEAN 95, and a not so clean 96.  But I just lack the motivation.

All I can offer is that I've been on Zuk forums for some years and I've never heard anyone mention any differences between the auto and manual bodies. It doesn't seem likely that there will be any. The pedal assembly is pretty easy to see up under the dash so you should be able to tell if the mountings are the same. I'd also check where the wining comes through the bulkhead as the 16V wiring has a few more wires and may also have been routed differently.

I would be surprised if the pedal brackets for both types didn't bolt to the same body mount points.  Tooling to produce two versions of the body mount is much more expensive than designing two brackets that have the same bolt pattern.

The only person I know that has done a body swap on a Zuk was a Sami.  There is an article here.

When you think about it, there really isn't much difference between swapping a body and doing a body lift.  You just have to disconnect all the wiring. tubing (brake lines, exhaust etc.) and linkage between the body and the chassis.  Then, instead of lifting the body 3 inches, you just lift it off completely...

I am working on putting a geo 95 body on a 89 side kick frame seemed to go well the 89 is a manual and the 95 is an auto. I was also able to put the 89 stering colum right in. i beleve the auto cut out on the floor is a bit different but should not be to bad.
the pedel cluster bolted right in.
and the hole for the clutch cable was there also.
hope this helps good luck. ;D ;D ;D

im going to do it, as i lack the welding talent enough to build a cage. i hope evrything swaps over easy if not im cutting it off. i wonder how heavy a 2dr tin top would be pretty much gutted(or how many cases of beer i will have to buy to persuade my buddies to come over and lift it)welp im off to start the dismantling........
