trail parts

im taking my sammi out on monday for the first time since ive owned it. what spare parts should i bring along with me out on the trail? it is a stock 1.3 with a spring over and 32" tsl's.

Just take it easy until you get used to what it will do.
Do you have low diff or T-case gears? this will make a big
difference in how it will drive up hills and stuff

+1 dont go all out your first time.  I made that mistake twice and ended up drivin home on a bent rim once and a flat the 2nd (ah the wisdom that comes the hard way :laugh:)  its always a good idea to have a friend rollin with you, just like 2 heads are better than one if something happens.  most of all, ENJOY IT!!  hard work tends to make any experience better and if your like me, the sweat and blood that goes into a build is a merrit badge of types.  saw this on a Honda motorcycle mag ad "scars are tattoos with better stories"

I have to say, common sense and a tow strap, maybe a come along as well are kinda lifesavers sometimes.  never know when you may end up needing the recovery devices.   common sense may keep you out of these scenarios.

another 4wd rig, tow straps, for you a good 32" spare tire, a jack preferably a high-lift one it can double as a come along too and I totally agree with Bobthebiker, common sense, if it looks to hard go easy if it is water check the depth first on foot.

Personally, I wouldnt even think about going without a first aid kit as well.     an "oh $$$t moment"  could turn into a "MEDIC!" moment pretty easy, better to have the first aid stuff and not need it than the other way around.    I guess being a scout all my life taught me if nothing else,  BE PREPARED.   

generally I've learned the thing that goes wrong is usually the one you didnt prepare for, or plan on.   I'm not saying take the whole shop, and an army field hospital with you, but just the basic stuff,  some basic wrenches and a few sockets, a basic first aid kit to cover possible mishaps, and the normal stuff, you should be alright.

Some of the things that I've seen come in handy with a sami multiple times are as follows.

* Come along

* Straps/cable/snatch blocks

*Correct sockets and wrenches to pull the drive shafts loose and put them back together.
(if you get airborn and run out of spline... hey, I'm just saying lol)

*Tools to pull motor mounts loose in the even of a roll over that leaves you with an engine sitting crooked with the fan jammed up into the shroud. (once again... I can neither confirm nor deny that this has happend to me twice)

*Air gauge and compressor to air back up after the trip. It seems like common sense, but I've seen it forgotten before.

*Duct tape, Bailing wire, zip ties, RTV, teflon tape, sticky velcro, 550 chord, and an LED headlamp

*extra quart of oil, and a jug of antifreeze (if your sami is anything like mine lol)

*box of granola bars and an unopened gallon of water in case of emergencies.

If you don't have any good points to tow from, you need to seriously consider putting a couple on before hitting the trails.
