Noone ever told me that the bottom hole/bolt for the crown vic shock was bigger than our stock one.   

The guy at the auto parts store told me to try to push the sleeve out of the bushing on the old shock, and use it on the new one.....but it's currently stuck.    I'm going back out now to work at it a little more.


Any ideas, suggestions?

Why don't you drill the bottom shock mount hole to match the size in the shock, and then get a larger bolt?

I don't have a drill/drill bit.....and the mount isn't big enough to make the hole any bigger, without compromising it's strength.   It crossed my mind....but I don't wanna do that.

have you got a motorcycle shop nearby. The universal bike shocks generally come with bushes to suit different size bolts, they may have some lying around. Engine/gearbox dowels sometimes do the job too.

go buy 95 mustang shocks, i mounted them on my tracker, no pissing around with sizes, direct bolt on and they were an inch longer than my crown vic shocks, one of them broke so i tried these and no complaints.

Woohoo!   Thanks for speedy replies....I just hammered and cut and pried the sleeves from the bushings out of the old shocks.   Bolted the 1991 Ford Crown Vic shocks on the Tracker.   Now it's lunch time.

Gonna put the wheels on and see how the Tracker sits with the back all done.

I see you've got it out, but this is something you need to do. You can either cut them out, burn them out or pull/press them out. I like using a large socket and a long bolt/nut to make a pulling jig.

I basically just hammered the snot out of it and and cut apart the rubber bushing until the metal sleeve surrendered itself to me.   Piece of cake!  =P

Yes, they're are but the crown vic ones are mostly mentioned because they fit the lift requirements, and they're cheaper than the others. From what I've read, the Mustang shocks may be longer, but they have less travel. The crown vic shocks are 1.5" longer, and have 1" more travel(IIRC)

when i purchased my rustang shocks i still had the crown vics on my tracker, one of which was hanging only by the top bolt.  i extended it fully by hand and did the same with the mustang shock, lined them up side by side and the rustang shock was longer extended.  then compressed them and they were the same length.  i wish i had gotten the part number as there seems to be lots of debate on this topic... with 3 inches of rear suspension lift the crown vics were not long enough, neither are the rustang shocks to be honest but until i get a driveshaft spacer and do something with my completely maxed out brake lines the rustangs will remain on there...

i compared shocks w/monroe spec. book, so didn't physically inspect the difference, but found similar measurements. sorry i didn't keep the part # (and i don't see any on the shocks).
i have 2" pucks in the back.

Could you guys or anyone else try to get those part numbers to me. I would REALLY appreciate it.

Go to RockAuto.com's website...look up the info for a 95 Mustang, rear shocks...they list all the mfg. make and model numbers of each shock, plus the price
