What do you use.
« on: September 22, 2006, 01:34:11 AM »
Hello to all I have not talked to in a while and those I have not met yet.

I have a quick question.
What type of trailer do you guys use to haul around your suzuki's for those that do.
I am in the market for a trailer to haul my samurai around, and I'm trying to get a feel for what I should be looking to buy.

Thanks

I went ahead and popped for a 16' dual axle dovetail trailer.  I could easily park the Gnewt and a quad on it, plus it could even tow a behemoth, like a Wrangler.

I use a converted Utility trailer, beefed up, with ramps installed (a little overboard on the ramps..lol)

My trailer was built from scratch using some metal we had laying around and some dual axels we had from an old horse trailer.  At 12' you can only put small vehicles on there, but it tows like a dream.  We threw the boxes on the rear instead of the front so people simply can't put larger vehicles on the trailer, it cuts down on abuse when their rigs simply will NOT fit compared to just being a little to large.  :D

You can put a Jeep on there with 33's, but it's tight...

Well that depends I have buddies that can weld so if it does not have some sort of sides on it not a big deal they can be added so really what would be ideal would be something like quaddawg has where I can get the samurai and a quad or two or three quads. But of course since I'm a suzuki owner I'm Cheap and would like to keep the price down under 1500 dollars.

Are you going to use it for other things as well?

I use just a car dolly and pull my Tracker with the front wheels down (tow it backwards)

Shoot, that's easy.. you can buy one for that. I gave 800 for mine, after I watched him reinforce it and add the ramps.

Check out ebay, craigslist, and any classifieds you have in the area.  I saw several today in the local trading post classifieds for under $1200... I thought about selling mine and upgrading. If I do, mine will bring $1000 or so.  I really need brakes, but can add them for about $200.. mine doesn't have brakes, and it NEEDS BRAKES... lol... gets a little scary in the hills and on panic stops... lol..

If it has trailer brakes, I would go for it.  That is worth a good set of heavy axels alone.

Hell yeah, even if it doesn't have brakes, that's worth it. If it were here, I would buy it right now.

If it doesn't have brakes, check the axles to make sure they are standard, and have brake mount flanges, and then you can add them if you have to.
