On to the driveline shop..
Yes, we did have to flatten the tires to get it out.
;)
Closer, ever closer!

So wy the axle swap anyway? Thought you had a toy up front, right? Now a FJ 80 axle?

Hey heather, remember this:

its gotten bigger!

Actually I think they were running a custom made axle with a sidekick rear donor and Sami ends. Im asuming they upgraded for strength. Plus the rear driveline angle would be more acurate on the fj axles with their sami case.

Looking Good Heather :o Glad to see it on the road again. (Just in time 8)

Sorry, it was a raw pic, right out of Heathers stash....
Besides, some of us that use 1900x1600 resolution. It looks great.
I'll see what I can do.

Are you ready for Moab yet?
Well, I still have to change my fluids...
...and mount my hi-lift...
...but if I don't mount the hi'lift, somebody else will have one...
...and put the big storage bin back in the back of the Gnewt.
It's snowing here AGAIN!

Cool 8) Heather, you're gonna need a stepladder. ;D

"WOW" In 4 years that little thing became a monster of a ZOOK ;D
Dont we all hope ours grow up like that too? ;D
-
WoW that thing is tall, I believe my little girl could ride the Barbie Jeep clear under it and out the other side.
Great to see it ready to go. Have fun at Moab!
Can't wait to see the pics.

It drives! :)
How's doe's it handle now compared to this Sammy hybrid set up you had ?
Feel more stable with the extra track width ?
Gotta love those e-lockers yeah ? ;D
-
In two weeks we'll be seeing how it does over the Golden Crack! I can't wait!
-
Awesome rig!
Are those 35" tires? Looks pretty tall so I'd guess your CG is kind of high and it might be exciting on sidehills. What did your WB end up at?
Since FJ80 axles come with coils why did you switch to leaf springs? Long arm 4-links on your rig would rock!
See you in Moab.

Oh, way more stable. I have a huge sway bar in the back, and a small one up front. Taking corners in this is nice, compared to what it used to be. It's also a bigger footprint than I had. So, yes, it's definately more stable.
As for the elockers, we'll be wiring them up this week. I can't wait to try them out!

The GC is kind of high, but it's more stable than it was last time I was at Moab. I have a wider wheelbase now. Not sure what the total length is yet, haven't measured.
Yes, they came with coils, but since my truck was already ready to go with the leafs, it was just easier to keep it that way. Leafs are definately easier to install than coils. At least for us, anyway. We don't have to worry about links and control arms.
Maybe in the next upgrade. ;)

every time i see your rig heather i get mad at myself for not doing a 4door,i love that thing !
-
Wow it's looking nice. It looks so big by its self then next to the dodge ram it reminds me how small they are. kinda funny it a 1/4 of length and three times the height. Are those 35 or 37?
-
you will have to see that thing flex in person to belive it .that was awsome heather. i am going to have to do that to mine (AFTER MOAB).
-
Sweeeet!!! You go, girl!!

After cruizing around for a couple days now. I'd say it drives a TON better than before.
I can't say exactly what helped it handle better than before except possibly all of the changes we made;
We installed new poly bushings all the way around (shackle hangers and springs). This should help with the deflection problem we were having.
We have entirely new spring packs, front and rear. (with mil. wraps) Additional main leaf for additional support and anti-spring wrap.
We have front AND rear sway bars. (probably the biggest contributor) The rear sway bar is VERY noticable. Helps cornering lots.
We now have a wider stance. (more available leverage on springs) Should help with CG and flexability.
I'd say they all helped. I expect our trail experience to be equally improved as our springs are better matched and balanced front and rear. Our stance is wider.
I feel more comfortable with the larger u-joints, and higher clearance angles on the drivelines along with the stronger axles, not to forget the addition of a front locker.
;D
I don't think we'll have a chance to really test it out until we get down there, so Moab will be another proving ground for the work we've done. *cross fingers*

Y'all are going to have to keep Kleenex handy for the nosebleeds you're gonna get climbing in that big rig!! Nice job, congrats!!
