Post by: MARTYRD on January 03, 2006, 08:44:24 AM
i bought a 1996  x-90 , 4x4 auto. not lock out hubs. what do i need to know about this car to make it a good runner ? besides that it is costing me a fortune for parts. ha ha.  i would like to put a big lift kit and big tires on it. what brand of lift kit and size of tires and size of rims ? i can only afford to do this once. ha ha.  also if i go with big tires will i need to put different gears in it ? i dont do any off roading but maybe some corn fields in the midwest once in a while. i am thinking about camoflauge it.  how do you keep windows from fogging up ? lots of problems with power windows, maybe i need new motors. abs sensor light and check engine light is on all the time but my car man said dont worry about it. he sid he has gone throught it and cannot get the lights off ? i have put new breaks on it, muffler, battery, alternator, starter, belts. he said i need a oxygen sensor ? do i really need one ? ( $100.00 ).  any info you be a great help. THANKS.  marty in northern IL.

There's nothing you can do for it.
Just put it on a trailer, and ship it to me.

Sorry!   ;D

It can be the oxygen sensor. But you should read out the code it gives first here's how to do it: http://bbs.zuwharrie.com/content/topic,27886.0.html. But I think you can find oxygen sensors cheaper than $100 I got one for something like 25 euro's. Don't use the dealer for all parts they suck and are way too expensive  ;).
Other thing why the check engine light could be on is this: http://bbs.zuwharrie.com/content/topic,27895.0.html

The chassis etc is the same as a kick. So lift kit etc would come from Calmini (3"), or rocky-road (2").

How big of a rubber do you want to put under it? As X-90's stock have smaller tyres than kicks and have smaller wheel arches because of that, some cutting might be needed.
Body-lift I would make myself. It can be a pain in the butt to get it under and your bumpers wont align like they do now but it's worth it imo.

Please don't camo it  ;) Looks like poo imo  ;D.

You can see what tyres will fit with a certain amount of lift here http://bbs.zuwharrie.com/content/topic,18791.0.html

Good luck and show us some pic's of your little X ;)

ps. sorry for all those zuwharrie links but they are just so easy to find  :-[

Your windows could be fogging up because of your air selection on the controls, there is one that is just an arrow that schwoops down(this is fresh air) and the other loops around in a "U" shape(this is recycle air) put it on the fresh air selection, and see if it helps.

As others have said, the vehicle is mechanically the same as a Tracker.  If you have anywhere near 75K miles on it, take it to Auto Zone, and they will read out the check engine code for you.  if it reads out EGR , check the tube between the EGR valve and the head.  The tube tends to plug up with carbon.  A few minutes with a wire and some carb cleaner (clear out the port in the head too) fixed mine.

Auto Zone and NAPA are much cheaper for parts than the dealer.  Also, being in northern Illinois, you might want to make friends with the people at Victory, the junkyard in Bensenville.  They get a few Trackers through there, and can be a source of cheap parts.

I have also heard that the autohubs can be a problem offroad.  I have heard that if you roll backwards too far, they may disengage, and if you really put the power to it, they can reengage suddenly and snap front end parts.  You may want to pick up manual hubs.

As rare as X90s are becoming, I would suggest keeping it close to stock if your wheeling is going to be fairly mild.

And if all else fails, and you decide to get rid of it, mention it on this board, It will be gone in the morning...
