The Sammy needs a new engine. No ifs, ands or buts. Looking for input on which way to go. Would love to go to a diesel but, a little to expensive and time consuming right now.
I came up with two likely choices
1)1.6 16-valve (TT to do the work, engine wil have about 70-90K on it)
2)1.6 with a 1.3 head and a Phase 1 torquer cam. (Fresh rebuild, and I can do myself over a weekend)
Any comments or other ideas. I have a weber to put on the second option already, and my exhaust is already shot so that isn't a real factor. (It resembles swiss cheese and will have to be replaced anyways ;D ).
I will need to maintain mileage. Lots of travel back and forth to work. And I think I can I can due the second one for a little less $$. Am I going to notice enough of a difference between these two set-ups to really care? I think a Yugo actually passed me on the freeway the other day so I know the both will be a definite improvement. ;D

I say 1.6 16V, keep it in standard trim and it should be set up right and 100% reliable , maybe more so than in a Track/Kick as it has less work to do. The other set up will need experimenting with to get the right carb and ignition settings

I thought that the diesel swap was easier than my old 16V swap.

aftermarket 4x4 had a used diesel for sale with the acme kit for 1200, not too bad.

Do you have a link for that?
