The bumper isn't different. It's just the lights that are in it. You can find them on every scrapyard here. If you want some I could order them here and sent them out to you  ::) if you have the bumper like me:

Then they bolt right up  ;)

That black Vit is an early model. They had the main light cluster in the bumper and the fog lights in the rear wing. The later ones like mine and Eds have the fogs in the bumper and the main cluster in the wing. The Vit pictured has been fitted with the later clusters in the wings, this is a common mod. The lights in the bumper are a PITA because the bumper scoops all the mud and water up and forces it into the clusters

Ever thought of learning to weld?  Here's a great opportunity to buy a cheap flux core wire welder, a 4 1/2" grinder (good combination of size and grinding wheel costs -- get one with 5/8" - 11 arbor) and some steel.

Get some of those sealed oval tail lights (you can get round, as well as in several colors & in LED) that mount in rubber grommets and make a bumper with recesses for the lamps.  Include a 2" receiver tube (you'll have to call around for a chunk of seamless though).

For 'fancy' you can take the old bumper cover and cut off the top part.  Just size the new one so it will cover the top.  You'd be surprised at how easy it is.  Use the old bumper mount holes and a couple of holes in the tail section of the frame rails and you have a right rigid mount.  Might have $300 (don't forget a can of Krylon to match -- or contrast) in the whole thing.  And you would still have the tools when you are done.  I have never understood plastic bumpers on somethign that might actually get dirty!

Here is a link to the United Kingdom Ebay site. There are a few on there. Just type in "Vitara Bumper" and do a search.

How hard is it to weld? I see the prices of these aftermarket bumpers and fall out of my chair. I keep thinking I can do it for much cheaper including the tools. Would love to try but I don't know anything about welding.... any thoughts

Do a search on Ebay for welders and welding supplies.  They will have plenty of cd/dvd's listed.  Flux core welding is a pretty easy thing to do.  The thing you will find hardest is going slow enough.  The more you pay for a welder, the higher the duty cycle (% time over a 10 minute period it will run at full bore), and the higher the maximum amperage; also, the larger reeels are cheaper than the 2# reels.  Don't worry about this too much, just learn to have a few things to do while it cools off.  Remember:  this is a learning experience.   The only other thing is that you will need to practice a bit to see how much heat it takes to get a good stitch.  Also, this is not an overhead type of welder and should not be used on the vehicle with the battery connected (it is possible to take out electronics with it in that case).

Technically speaking, mig welding implies an inert gas running in the wire dispensing gun.  A mig welder can use flux core either with or without the gas.  A flux core only welder wont have the connections or parts to run the gas, but will still often be called a mig welder.  As long as you know the difference, either is ok.  Homo Depot has them for a quick reference.  Don't do like the bozo's on American Chopper:  use some gloves and long sleeved clothing (mostly for the UV protection -- flux core splatters a lot more, similar to arc welding).

It's very satisfying to 'do it yourself'!

I agree with mojoincolorado .
Very happy with how my rear bumper turned out for a office worker like my self.

I followed your links.  Very nice job!

I did a wrap around (will have to figure out how to post pics) and a 45 degree angle back so that mine set just to the rear of the 205 spare (since I lifted it and put 235's on it).  i put a 2" reciever hitch in mine.  Always nice to see different ideas.  I really like the way you made the top follow the contour of the body.  Mine was made with 1/8" 4" square tubing for the main beam, 2" x 4" for the extensions running forward (very similar to yours in that area).  45 degree portions are 4" square cut and notched so that the forward extensions notch into it.  I used the left over notch pieces to reinforce the hitch area on the body side and the bottom.  s[aced teh bumper back using 4" pieces and attached the the bottom with 2" angle iron to the frame.  Then I cut the top of a $5 beat up stock bumper cover to fill the gap.

On your crossmember:  Junkyard (breaker yard ?) a crossmember from an older unit.  They had higher ground clearance, plus it is double wall (boxed).  The only work is that you cut the hook for the exhaust hanger off of your old corssmember and mount it on the new one.  I then placed a 1/4" (6 MM) shim between the end of the crossmember and the rame.  That made it flush with the bottom of the frame (you'll see which end:  the end that sets on the frame, as opposed to the end that hangs from the frame).  I think Suzuki just got cheap on us the last couple of years of that body style.

Enjoy!

I know the crossmember you are taking about, not sure if the Calmini skid plates will work with that design crossmember????

Calmini doesn't list application years in this body style for the skid plate.  Plus, the skid plates I have (AFTER I bent the cross member) fit.  Besides, if you made what you have, and modified your shock mounts, you can egg out a hole or two. :)
