Title: Doors
Post by: texrok on January 15, 2006, 04:01:20 PM
Hey guys.  I've been poking around the sight for a while now.  Finally came up with a question.  Does anybody make soft doors for a Trackick?  I am thinking I would like to have some soft doors like what you would find on a jeep.  I run my tracker around the deer lease with the doors off but I get tired of taking the heavy ass doors off and on.  I am also interested in knowing who makes the aero tops for the Trackicks.  Thanks for any help and putting up with my newb questions.

I take it that this was a really dumb question. ;D

I know I will have many dumb questions when I finally start modding my rig.  I have a 95 tracker, 2 door, convertable, with auto trans, 16v engine.  I plan on doing a body lift and suspension lift in the future and make a light trail rig out of it.  Whick will include bigger tires, and some drivetrain protection.  It would be nice to install some new bumpers and a winch but it will all come in time.  Here lately it has been used as my hunting buggy.  It has worked great for getting into the back woods and hauling out the kill. ;D  I usually unbolt the doors and run around with out them.  Makes for easier getting in and out to open gates and what not but after the hunt I have to wrestle the doors back in place.  Some soft doors like you see on Jeeps would be indeal I would think.

Not a dump question at all.  I haven't seen any for a Trackick.  I wish there were some.  When I have unbolted my door I did it on the door side and left the hinges in place.  Looked kind of dumb but was fairly easy to get to.  How did you do it?

That is exactly what I do.  I take the bolts out of the door, but if you are by yourself it is a pain getting the door back on.  If I knew how to sew the material to the plastic for the windows and had a machine that would do so, I would make them myself, but some things are just out of the question and not feesible.  It would be easy to weld a light frame for the material and to rig up a latching mechanism,  but oh well.  I may want those doors in place when I take this thing out wheelin' incase I lay it over, right?

I just made mine pull on/off,

drill all the parts of the hinge out to 3/8"

run a 3/8" x 3" pin up from the bottom of each hinge (helps if you gring the top of the pins to somewhat of a point, it helps when puttin the doors back on )

weld the bottom of the pin to the inner hinge part

cut the top ear off the inner hinge

thats it..... works for me, and easy too.

oh yeah, one more thing, I screwed some old strap parts to the lower rear part of each door as a lifting point, it helps alot!

Tube Door Pics

This look so bad since it didn't get painted, now it's got
surface rust, The production doors won't have the decorative
curved inserts, these were custom made for me for being the
mockup to bend and fit them.

These do not come painted, so plan on painting them before
you use them, I also don't know if they are going to come with
the latches, but these are stock SideKick units, unless he has
a new latch system that is included

So I should snag the latches of my parts car b-4 it goes away.

I would love a set of doors like that but I have enough problem taking my top off.
It rains for weeks right after I put my Bikini top on. ;) ;D

Now that's sweet.  Do you just cut them and weld new sheetmetal in to fill the gap?
