Pull off the boot and take out the shifter. You should see two rods in the case. They are jammed. you should be able to pop them out with a big screwdriver. It will take a little bit of force but, the whole process, take apart, fix and put back together usually takes about 10 min. if you take your time.

it is a sammy.

I got it, they were not aligned and almost impossible to move. After I did get them aligned the shifter would seat.

Thanks!

If you didn't replace it, rush out in a BUYING FRENZY and get a fresh shifter sheet (that plastic donut piece the shifter ball sits in).  A number of the big internet vendors ( I like Hawks...) and your local Suzuki dealer has one -- usually for less than $20, often around $12 plus shipping.
