Title: Parking Brake Indicator
Post by: jSager on January 21, 2006, 10:02:49 AM
My 99 GV’s parking brake light (on the instrument panel) will continually light up, even if the parking brake is off.  I’m pretty sure it’s a short, as over Thanksgiving it would flicker on during left turns and then off on right.  Now it’s solid.  I’ve disassembled the console and looked at the switch at the parking brake handle, and there isn’t anything obviously wrong.

Any clues?

Does it say brake or parking brake on the dash?  Can't say I've ever seen ours.  On some vehicles the brake light will come on when you need to add a little brake fluid to the resevoir.  A few weeks ago the wife mentions that said light has been coming on when she goes around corners..."kinda hard"... ::)...so I looked at it and sure enough, it was low.  Although I have to say, the brake fluid wasn't that low, just low.  I added maybe 1/8 of a pint and so far so good.  She hasn't seen it since.

It just says "Brake" and normally it would come on when I had the parking brake set.  I'll check the fluid though.

Thank you, thank you, thank you.

I was pretty low in brake fluid, filled it up and the light goes right out.

It's nice to have a community like this with helpful people for things like this.

Thanks again,

No problem man.  The simplest things are often the easiest solutions.  Also the cheapest... :P

If it was that low you may want to check your brake pads also.
