i got my bodylift today from RRO, (sweet), but in the directions it says not for rack & pinion vehicles... ?
i got 98 2door sidekick. do i got rack & pinion?

LOL rack and pinion is a long tube looking piece on the firewall, and standard power stearing is a stearing box and power stering pump, do you hvae a box mounted by the radiator, or is it lon and roung mounted by the firewall?

The Rack and pinion steering is actually mounted to the front cross member under the radiator, not the firewall like on some cars, the same one that the front mounts for the A-arms are mounted. Only '99 and later Vitaras and Trackers come with R&P, A '98 should have recirculating ball steering.
If you still have a ? regarding whether or not you have R&P steering, it will be a long tube shaped box mounted laterally along the front cross member with an arm coming from both left and right ends of it going out to the wheels.
If it is recirculating ball, there will be a cylindrical shaped steering box running longitudinally in the frame (not laterally like a R&P) with an arm (called a "pitman arm") that goes rearward from the box and connects to a rod that runs the width of the frame. That rod, in turn, connects to the two arms that go to the wheels. These arms WILL NOT come directly out of the steering box like on the rack and pinion.

Comes from long hours of looking at my '01 and trying to figure ways to lift it. I have some ideas, but need help as I don't know how to weld or fabricate.:( Oh well, maybe some day ;)

check the frame, lots of time the mounting positions from previous desgins stay, take for instance a "i think" 1998 grand marque, you can bolt on 70 - 80 front ends directly to it. and maby you could swap out to a non rack and pinion, find a friend that knows how to weld, case of beer some cardboard, a bit of googleing and some steel stock you would be suprised. ;D ;D
A good drill and some quality bolts can take you almost as far as a welder.
Want it, think it ,SEE IT , grab a saw\grinder/welder\drill and bolts and make it happen, nothing is impossible, often impropable but never imposible thats why god gave us tools ;D

The front cross member is easy. Just remove bolts drop the crossmember, put 6 inch blocks in and bolt back up. The rack and pinion and front A-arm mounts are on the front cross member which is only bolted to the frame, not welded. Then, of course, you will need a longer steering shaft, also not a big deal. The rear cross member is the problem. You would need to cut the cross member out, but leave the current holes for the A-arm mounts. To these you would bolt your new crossmember mounts that will lower your new cross member and rear A-arm mounts and axle mount the same 6 inches. Then you need to fab up the other two axle mounts and some strut mounts and you have it. But again, I don't know how to weld!!!!! >:(
