Title: calmini costomer service
Post by: Hard_on_riggin on February 23, 2005, 02:42:55 PM
I am new to this site and love trucking only in it for a few years and now building my new zook,i am not a motor head but love my zook. i find my calmini parts very tough and perform great but i have had rear gears on order for 6 months and no sighn of them is this normal ? i was two months getting my parts in dribs and drabs but i need the gears... they tell me different stories each time i call is it just me or are they like this to every one?

Its normal.
Too many request, not enough parts.
You just gotta relax and take it.
Some times they're just sloooooooooooooooow.
It took my 6 months for a back bumper, a month for my skid plates, and .........
Thats it. I've gotten everyelse from them in a reasonable amount of time.(the lucky few)
Considering I've gotten everything (about 90%) for a SideKick, for my SideKick, from them.
Did that make sense?

I ordered a Loc-Rite from them,
it never showed, I needed the
part to get the Trucklet back on
the road, so I ordered one from
a local shop, about the same price.

9 months later they (Calmini) called
to get my credit card info, I don't even
know what it's for, so he tells me, I'm
like I orded it ages ago, I got one somewhere
else, so he said OK I'll cancel the order

Just have to wait, I hear the gears are
produced in batch runs, they wait till there
are enough on order for the run, like a group
buy, tho not really one

I think they are also out of Emailanswers ( not just the parts ), as they never answer any Emails  >:(

I would think they buy gears in one order, Not great if you were order number 1 and they actually place the order once they get to 25 :-)  maybe

The only thing i didnt like is they say "yes its gonna be a while but never give you an expected ship date"

I have gone elsewhere due to this fact but also been lucky that I have picked up second hand stuff from guys giving up.
Lockrite from Rocky Road to the UK took just under 4 weeks, I thougth that was brilliant.  I also bought my ARB from them ordered on the 15th of december came about the 15th of Jan I didnt even speak to them all on line. I just called to say thanks when it arrived.

Maybe Calmini will jump on here and explain maybe time for them to take a risk and keep parts in stock rather than building up an order they must have made lots of money out of us ZUK boys by now lol.

I wouldnt bother emailing best phoning.

One of the salesmen found a 12 bolt 5.83 rear R&P mixed in with the 10 bolts the other day, Guess who's got it now  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

The gears are jobbed out so I suppose they have little control  over when they are going to come in, last I heard the order was not too far away from arriving.
I imagine the sales guys get pi$$ed as well not being able to give a definite answer due to having to relying on another supplier  :-/

All in all they have been pretty straight up with me when I've ordered parts and told me if there is a delay and kept me updated with progress when I've emailed or phoned to see how things are coming along.

I've only ordered my lift from Calmini, and it came in reasonably quick (less than a week for the body lift and about 2 weeks for the suspension... not bad, IMO).

I have also ordered LOTS of stuff form the guys at Calmini and never had a problem. Some parts took a while to get, but I was told when I ordered them that they were out of stock and it could take a while. With specialty built stuff for our rides, it just takes a while. But it's well worth the wait :)

I am glad someone posted this because I was thinking this myself. I ordered a full exhaust and header and some diamond plate rocker panels three weeks ago. They told me they shipped three days after I ordered them so a couple of days later I call to get the tracking number and they tell me to call back in a couple of days and this goes back and forth several times. Finally I get my tracking number on monday and they didn't ship them until monday two weeks after they told me they were shipped. I don't have a problem with waiting for parts I just don't like being lied to and will probably not buy anything else from calmini.

I have had mixed results.

On most stuff, I have had very prompt delivery, including my 5.83's (Maybe I gut lucky?)

Their 5.83's are made by Richmond Gear - at least it is a highly reputable quality gear set - but some times you would think that they ran out of iron ore, or something...

I have ordered several "brand new" parts.  When you do this, you are going to wait.  What I have figured out, over the years, is that Calmini announces a new product long before they're actually ready to ship any (but not before they've tested it).  So sometimes, it takes awhile until the pipeline actually starts spitting out the new part.  I went through this with the Anvil, and with the Rear Swing-Arm Bumper.

What has been somewhat effective, is just being a pain in the a$$ for Steve Kramer.  I just keep calling him, and calling him, and calling him.  I have gotten to the point where he finally said "stop calling - it's going to be another three weeks" - and then it WAS!

I've got Steve's number programmed into my cell phone.

But hey, I've spent over $6,000 at Calmini - maybe I've earned the right to complain.

Thanks for the reply guys.

I have never been stiffed just lied too, as long as they keep sending the parts i will just have to hang in there and try not to brake parts i dont have in the back yard lol.  But i am running short of stock gears they work but not as nice as the new ones. the auto stock gears get it moving on the road but suck in the mud the stick gears are ok with high flow exaust and headers but still fall short. I NEED MY GEARS!!!!! And i am getting very good at changing them. A talent i could live without..

That's my biggest gripe too ... (not specifically with Calmini, but any vendor).

So to vendors out there ...

If you don't know, say so.
Don't say "it's shipped", unless it has
If there is some screwup (stock count wrong, stock damaged/broken, etc) call and inform your customer (most can understand that **it happens).

calmini bites.  i finally peeled the giant calmini sticker off of my samurai because i realized that i will never order from them again.  In the past, i ordered some things for my xterra that i had and my samurai that i now have.  They were very rude and impatient with my questions half the time on the phone and their crap took forever to arrive.  they have a flashy website and catalog and a nice sticker, but service is non existant.   >:(

rocky road, hawk strickly and shrockworks have earned my respect and i will continue to order from them and receive good tech support.

guess u didnt have to deal with what i did.  its their loss that they allow some of us to have a bad experience.  i wish i could remember that |removethispart|@#$holes name that i used to deal with on the phone over there all the time.  cocky, rude, impatient, short.  i could go on and on.  he is not the company, but he represents the company.  and they are gonna develope a bad reputation.  ill see to that.  i know im not the only one here

and not to mention "yeah you'll see your lift within 4 weeks"  HOW ABOUT 3 MONTHS. NO CALL, NO EMAIL.  NO FOLLOWUP.  im not in a hurry to get my rig back on the road or anything.

i figured out how to deal with them, and thats not to.

somehow other companies dont have this problem

Over the years, I have seen different companies swing back, and forth.  I have seen threads (on another BBS), where the people can't say enough good about Calmini customer service, at the same time they are ripping on another Track/Kick vendor.

EDIT:  I guess what I'm saying is, that EVERY vendor has had bad spells, and EVERY vendor has had great spells.  If you refuse to buy from a vendor, because their customer service SUCKS, you may be doing a great disservice to yourself.  I have gotten a few really great deals from vendors I would normally never think of buying from.

there should be no swinging.  ;D
i take it like i see it- i purchased a butt load of stuff from calmini over the years and had virtually the same experience with them every time.  but so far with the other companies i have mentioned above, i have not had this issue.  im sticking with my argument.  ;D

I have problems getting stock parts from the local parts store or dealership??

I just know that if I need something I'm going to have to wait unless I can make it or find it in a junk yard.

As for Calimini, I've waited everywhere from a week to 9 months for parts.  Have had ok to good tech service.

It mostly depend on where you fall on the ording list.  Like someone else said if your 1st too bad you'll have to wait, if your last good for you, parts will come soon.

either calmini is very selective in who they piss off, or some people just dont see that they are getting poor service.
