I need to find out! I want 33x10.50 BFG MT's or SS tsl radials. I have 15x8 rims, w/ 2.5' BS. rioght now I have 31x11.50 LTB'sand I only rub the frame at full lock.
So what you think, can I do 33's? Obviously, trimming fenders don't bother me! Worried about rubbing the frame and rubbing the tub, especially in the back. Will more BS on the rims help? LIke 3.25" or 3.75"? Maybe keep the tires out of the frame/fender?
Gimmie some feedback! 8)

You would need LESS backspace, not more.. less moves tires away from frame, more towards... Since you are going from LTB's at 11.5 you will be going DOWN in tire width, and that big lug that sticks out on the LTB's... I am betting that fender trimming will get it done.. If your LTB's are JUST rubbing at full lock, I bet it's the big side lug doing the rubbing, and the other tires you mentioned do not have that lug so far out...

With less backspacing, the tire is pushed further away, but that increases the arc the tire turns in. The potential for more tire rubbing the fenders is there, but I dunno about the frame....
What I need is another set of tires n rims to test. :P

no way ive got a 6" and mine still rubs a little when i flex a lot i have 3inch backspace locker rims 3 inch body and 3 inch calmini and im running 32 11.5s i dint do much trimming but 33s. youd have to trim all the way to the door sils if you plan on going off road 2 inches iss not enough. also
i have a1600 8v and it is a dog on the road hardly no power youd need to go with a 1600 16v or bigger also its hard on the trany you would need 5.62 r&ps to take off the stress . this is from experiance. and back space means the mounting of the hub moves tword the vehicle moving the tire away for those who are confused.

Cheif, remember my Green Goblin tracker I was driving? It was running 33-10.50x15 SS TSL Radials on 15x8" rims with 3.5" of backspacing. It also has about 2" of suspension lift(custom mix of spacers and OME up front and Calmini rear) and around 3-1/2 to 4" of body lift. I still had to do a little trimming and pounding, but they clear pretty well now.

We had a guy in our club put 33x12.5's under his Kick with no bodylift and about 3/4" coil spacers all around but it did take some work with cutting tools and a big hammer ;D He had to remove the stop under the gas pedal and the firewall came back far enough (courtesy of the big hammer) to be the new stop. Wide and low and very stable although that didn't stop him from still tipping it ;D

I did it with the Calmini 2" suspension Lift, 3" body lift and LOTS of cutting and trimming ;D

I had 33x9.5s with 3.75" of backspacing running 2" of suspension lift and a 3" bodylift. I tried less backspacing but it made things much worse because of the arc that the wheel travels in. It still needed some cutting of the fenders and the corners of the footwells moving back a little (not as far as the throttle stop). The amount of lift you have isn't that important, to clear 33s without cutting and shutting the footwells you would need around 8" of bodylift. Less if your spring lift is too hard to compress to the bump stops anymore.
You could consider Mikes IFS widening mod. That moves the front wheel a little further forward.

Yea, I remember your ride. Do you rub the frame at all? Where did you rub at?
Rhinoman, your problem is what I am afraind of. I have 2.5" BS rims, I think it would make the arch LARGE. Rub the fanders badly.
Wezzle. Gearing is takin care of. I run a sammi t-case. The fenders have been CUT to say the least! I'm going to have to relocate my fuel filler when I cut more. ;D And the floor has been knocked back a good deal to clear the 31's, no prob.
I think I'm just going to do it, and see what else I have to do to get em to work! Screw it!!!!! 8)

Now THERE you go! That's the attitude.. gettem first, then you will KNOW what has to be pounded/cut/etc..
SO, with my 2.75 backspacing, and the 31x11.50 LTB's I ordered.... I will have to pound my firewall/floor how much? how big of a hammer we talking... LOL 8)

I have 6" lift total, clears 32x11.50 BFG's on 8" rims, slight rub at full steering lock, with suspension flexed out. 33's will require me to begin cutting on the body. 33's with only 2" lift sounds impossible to me.
-
No frame rub at all. the only rub I have is the pinch weld at the back of the front wheelwell/firewall area. I've already pounded it flat with a big hammer and I only rub it slightly at full lock now. I also trimmed the back edge of the front wheel wells and the front edge of the back wheelwells around 1-1/2" or so...

With only a 2-3" lift, you'll have to pound back the floorboard to clear em! A 10lb sledge and a cutoff wheel are your friend. 8)
