Title: Sidekicks not kickin, please help.
Post by: zoomzoom on February 05, 2006, 08:28:44 PM
I have a 92 sidekick, 2 door, manual, and i was wheelin it around on some rocks, got out to take a pic, and it just died. i thought it ran out of gas so i put some in it and its still not running. if you spray starting fluid in the intake it kicks right over but shortly dies.

I came back a day later and tried it and it fired up and ran for about 30 seconds and then died again. the fuel relay is clicking on and fuel is pumpin to the throttle body but im not getting nothin. is it an injector, computor, ??????, thanks  a lot, lance

I had the same problem.  I changed the ecm and it started up and ran for about two weeks.  Now, as I was driving home from work on Saturday it stopped running again.  This time there is no pusleing noise at all, nothing, it won't start.  So I put the old ecm back in and it makes the all the same noise and still won't start.  I changed back to the other ecm and it starts and runs for about 3 seconds and then won't start.  Am I that unlucky to have two bad ecm's or is there something else causing this.

it is very possible to have 2 bad ECM's - if your trackick was born anywhere from 90-93 the ECM's are known to have inferior capacitors(3 of them). Have them changed and you should be good to go. If you search "ECM" you will find lots of people complaining about the same problem.
FWIW - also check the wire harness connector behind the driver side tail light for corrosion, these are known to go bad too - the large pink wire is for the fuel pump.

It's not getting fuel because of the ECM, it controls the pump.
