Of course, it won't turn... LOL, but it will roll!
LOL... just put them on to get an idea of looks, and where to trim, might not have to trim much at all rear, just need to flex it to see how much off the top.
Seems like the frame will be fine...  just the bumper, and the rear corner of the fender opening, and just a few whacks on the floor board, and I think will be good to go..
NOW, where is the cheapest place to get some flares?ÂÂ
Loving the look that is coming together here... low, but big meats..
This is with 31x11.50/15LT   Super Swamper LTB's on 15x8 Rockcrawlers, 2.75" BS
2" BDS Suspension lift ONLY. (2" longer springs, gave me a tad more than 2" at wheel to fender measurement)
-
LOOKS GOOD! :o
-
Got the front all trimmed out.. couple more hammer swings here and there and all good.
Rear needs some clearance over the top on a full stuff, but it's working pretty well, would do a mall poser fine now, no rubbing on street.. plenty of power to pullem... hold 5th pretty good.

Very cool, those tires look badass.
-
Well, I like'em... but the Buckshots were actually grippier... I think once I get the tire knife out and cut 5 pounds of rubber off each one.... sipe'em up good... they will be great..
I do have to say, I got the stance I was looking for!
-
Quaddawg,
where did you get them? That's the setup I'm planing on...Sky spacers and 2"bodylift.
How much where they? They look great on your rig!!!!
Later,Tom K.
-
Thanks! I like it... just what I was going for...
I will say for the record though.. I hate spacers and body lifts, I swore I would use neither one...
I got these at 4wheelparts.com
4 15x8 Rockcrawlers in 2.75" backspacing
4 31x11.50 15LT SuperSwamper LTB's
mounted balanced, with caps (didn't use'm) and lug nuts, shipped to my door on a pallet
$710  I thought that was a fine deal... just mounting and balancing around here runs $50-80 at a shop... That works out to $177.50 per tire/wheel  all in all, this was the best deal I could find....
I have no body lift, I am sure there would have been less trimming if the body had been lifted.. but...... I HATE BODY LIFTS!!!
-
Here is another interesting thing about this tire and size.. it measures out around 30 and a skosh... say 30.25-30.50 approx.
The stock tire is 27.1,  SO..... switching to the 5.62's from an early 1.3 liter Tracker is going to give me VERY close to stock gearing. (5.66 would be perfect, so a set of 5.83's would rock, but wow, on price......)
I just so happen to have these gears coming from a deal I made on the "Garage Sale" forum.. :D
NOW, all I need is the trail tough TC gears for the trails, and I am about set up
Still to go, some sort of sliders, (picked up one of those new skid plates from Aftermarket4x4 today) and hopefully an ARB for the front and switch to 26 spline axles
Damn... this is worse than a drug addiction!!
-
Here are some cheap flares that i have found. i dont have any experience with them but its a good deal.

Thanks, that is what I was looking for.....

Yup. Those are what I use too.
3"inch heavy duty w/o the wire.
-
I will say for the record though.. I hate spacers and body lifts, I swore I would use neither one...
I have no body lift, I am sure there would have been less trimming if the body had been lifted.. but...... I HATE BODY LIFTS!!!
Spacers: I hear you on that. I would rather use a longer spring anyday than to stick a spacer in there. I am currently doing a spring lift on my wifes Kick. No spacers just longer springs with OEM spring rates. The back set is already done and yields 3.25" of lift. The front set is still getting dialed in for a perfect match.
Body-lift: I did find something I like about a body lift on these little trucks. When you drop off ledges and logs, etc. the frame doesn't stick down far enough to protect the rockers. With a 3" body lift it allows me to drop onto the frame and slide over it without hitting the rockers. Once I get sliders on there it will even be better. To me it is almost a necessary evil if you are building a IFS offroad rig. It also allows you to land hard without stuffing big tires into wheel arches.
-
Shredder, I hear you.... I am fighting that battle, but I swear I won't give in.. yet...
I am going to cut the rockers open, and try to fab up some sliders that will take the place of the bottom part of the rockers... no ground clearance lost, and no rockers to crush...
as far as stuffing... I am going to get those tires inside that fender SOMEHOW.. trimming, rolling, whatever, if I have to, I will build a widebody kit from sheet metal parts of other trackers.. SOMETHING... but I love the way it sits now.. so I will make it work..
Drove it on the freeway today, 50 mile round trip, just to see how it pulled.. had NO trouble holding 3000 rpm in 5th.. even accelerated... a little.. I think I had her to 75 once.. Not sure, as I haven't corrected the speedo yet.. according to the charts and calculators, it should have been about 75... (I can't find my Radar gun!!)
It will be nice to get the 5.62's in it though...mostly for off road... It is getting to the point that it isn't a lot of fun to drive by Semi's anymore... LOL...
-
Those RockCrawlers are some heavy rims. My wifes Kick has my old aluminum rims with 235 ATs on it and when I get in that I feel like I am in a sports car. 85-90 MPH not a problem. Mine, on the other hand, doesn't like the highway much anymore and I equate it to the unsprung weight of those wheels and tires. We had snow (short lived this year) so I put on some stock wheels with 7.00-15 (traction) tires that are a little over 30" tall. All of a sudden I could do 75 on the highway with little effort (tires set at 22 PSI). The snow left (and I got tired of being razed about skinny tires) so I put my 'Crawlers and 31s back on and it hates the highway again.
I wish I could find an afordable aluminum wheel with the right dimensions. :-\ I would dedicate my 'Crawlers to my trail only rig.
Here is what those skinny snow tires looked like on it.
-
I did a freeway jam today, and it pulled the 31 LTB's at 70, no real problems.. but no big hills.. no matter.. I have other stuff to drive on the freeway...
Just got back in from trimming the rear fenders...
Before and afters
-
here is a side shot (sorry, it was dark...)
Action shots tomorrow, of full stuff... to see if I have ANY rub left..
-
I like the way the rear wheel openings are made.. The drivers side is simple to trim, and the passenger isn't too bad either, except for the gas filler door and recess..
First I drew the arc I wanted to make, then I cut off the lip, right on the 90 degree bend, all the way around the wheel well, to free up the steel inner fender.
Then, I cut the inner fender back about an inch or so, so the outer fender could be sliced, and folded over the inner fender. I made a cut almost to my marked arc, ever couple of inches or so, folded the outer fender over the now recessed inner fender and then I hammered it into as smooth of an arc as I had the patience for (hey, it's a trail rig!) and then drilled and riveted each "tab" that I sliced, making a strong connection. It is almost as strong as stock... I think it is smooth enough to use those fender flares on... time will tell, I ordered them this morning.. if not.. hammer time again.. LOL..
Here is the metal I had left over... lol.. most of the fender actually got folder over and riveted...
I wish I had taken sequential pictures... truth is, I was winging it... not sure how it was going to turn out.. Made my tires look tiny.... LOL... Guess I will have to do a little more trimming on the fronts, to make it match... STILL, no body lift required.. I will strengthen up the rockers with tube, and it will be FINE!
-
Your Tracker tuned out real nice, makes one not want bigger tires!
Now for the important question!
Why the Fishing String? ;D
(http://www.forumsigs.com/users/quaddawg605//DSCN4640.jpg)
-
Ok you have inspired me.
The following images of your Tracker is what I would like to do (if I find a cheap enough of one to cut up). Keep in Mind it is easier in photoshop, so I will probably have to modify some of the cut lines and add a hood scoop of some sort to clear the Valve cover and who knows what else.
So here it goes:
First, Channel Cut lines:
Second, Body Channeled:
Third, Chop Cut Lines:
Forth, Chopped:
Fifth, Shorten Cut Lines:
Sixth, Shorten Final Version:
Seven, Orignal:
Eigth, Optional Shorten, this would avoid the chop top fill in filler needed when the roof is chopped. The doors are cut Vertically and the whole vehicle is shorten thru the middle resulting in a shorter wheelbase. Now your tires look Big Agian! ;D
(http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y4/kozaz/Zuks/Trackers/Chopped/trimmedShorten2fixchop.jpg)
-
LOL! Great!! I love it.. now come to ohio and chop and channel it for me!
Fishing string? I am LOST on that comment.. what are you talking about???
. I do like that pneumatic antenna launcher in your pic though.. is that yours??
One word of warning here.. I found out the hard way that the ENTIRE rear wiring harness runs right on top of the inner fender... LOL.. I cut it in SEVERAL places.. ended up with over 15 splices to get it back in shape (Fuel pump, rear speaker, taillights, brake lights, signals, fuel gauge, back up lights AND license plate light... LOL)
-
Lookin good! Here's where mine ended up after everything was said and done:
You can see where I used silicon to cover up the hole left where I pounded back the tub to clearence for the tire. Zero rubbing at full stuff and lock, not counting the frame.
Here's the rear clearence
(http://www.rrorc.com/gallery/data/523/medium/8rear_clearence.jpg)
I went with a different shock mount as you can see in the pic. I gained alot more up travel due to this. I had to severly cut the fenders high to not rub! More will be coming in the future. 8)
No pics of the pass side cutting. I'll get one tomorrow and a couple of how I did my sliders up also. I cut the rockers quite a bit and tucked them tight up underneith. You can see my old square tubing sliders, they dragged ALL over the place. My new tube ones hardly drag at all now. ;D
-
Cool, I need to see pics of the new sliders! That is exactly what I want to do.. try to get a shot of how they mount.. to the frame I hope??(not sure where else... lol)
Did you do away with the fuel door? any further and I will have to do SOMETHING with the door... LOL...
I went out and got the left front tire as high as I could today, on a hump in my "test ditch" in my backyard.. (Great little area to test out mods, right in my suburban back yard.. LOL..)
The tire came within an inch of touching the top of the fender cut out.. but it didn't touch, even when I jumped up and down on the bumper... The fronts were fine too, I need to disconnect the sway bar and see if they are still ok...
SO.. I think I am done for now, unless I do your shock mount mod (which seems very cool.. must look into that!)
I forgot to take my camera with me, so I will try to get some pics tomorrow, and and post the before and after of the stuff...
I CAN'T WAIT FOR MY GEARS TO GET HERE!! I want it locked up so badly... I don't see any sense in pulling the rear and putting the spool in.... and then redoing it in a week or two when the 5.62's show up..
I tell you, I just got back from a freeway jam... it'll pull 70 no prob (converted...63 indicated).. but not much faster, on nice level areas it would pull 77 or so..but that is it.... the thing is.. with the tall tires the little thing just purrs along at 60... less than 3000 rpm... it's great.. pull it into 4th and pass just fine... I have considered NOT changing the gearing... and instead just getting crawler gears for the TC... BUT, in the long run, it's a trail truck and the extra low end grunt will be worth it.. the 5.62's will correct the speedo too..
-
Quaddawg,
I'll take the 5.62's off your hands if you will get rid of them ;D....I first dibbs ;)!!!!LOL
Later Tom K
-
After all the trouble I went through to get them, I am sure I will put them in... lol.. but let me tell you, it's tempting.. it does city driving just fine... and I drive ALL the time around this city..
Man, this Zuki stuff is consuming.. this is my other passion...
My OTHER 4x4:
-
i love the color of your tracker is that just a primer?
-
Thanks, I was trying to match the color of my Quad actually... it is Polaris Green.. sort of shiny Olive Drab...
This is actually Krylon Special Camoflage, made to be flat when it dries, like primer..
you can get any color flat if you go to your Automotive Paint store and have them mix a flattening agent into it. I was going to go that route.. but my compressor crapped out on me, and I didn't have a decent gun, or place to squirt it.. so I just used rattle cans... LOL, came out great, and I can carry a touch up can with me wherever I go.. :)
I just scuffed the clearcoat, masked and rattle canned it.. I did do a little ghetto body work, cut out some rust, used Chassis Saver rust converter, and did some sheet metal patch work first though.. all in all, for an afternoon and $30.00, it worked out fine... :)
I am thinking about clear coating it... it would match my Sportsman better that way, and I did a test panel, looks great! (clear comes in rattle cans too!)
-
how does it run now with the bigger tires?
-
Read five posts above your last one...
runs surprisingly well
-
LOL! Great!! I love it.. now come to ohio and chop and channel it for me!

I thought the antenna ball launcher was yours LOL!
I got the pic here http://www.forumsigs.com/users/quaddawg605/.
Thanks for the heads up on the rear wiring harness!
Keep us posted on your new slider setup.
-
LOL, I thought that looked familiar!! Actually it belongs to an online aquaintance of mine, from another forum.. they use them to shoot the tennis balls over tree limbs, with the fishing line, then they pull thier HAM radio antennas up into the trees with the line... used for emergency radio communitcations in the field..
Disconnect the fishing line, and you have a great tennis ball launcher, in case your balls need launching.. an offshoot of Potato Cannons (another old hobby of mine... LOL)
-
Just got some more shots of trim job and stance.. in good light..
The last stuff picture shows the Tracker on a hump, the previous non trimmed picture was rubbing bad here... on this one, there is plenty of room
-
I like your antenna mount, but I woulda tore it off already. :P
It's dark out, but lemme see if I can get some pics of my sliders, shock mount and gas door.....
Edit, didn;t take new pics, but got these ones I took when I got em, and the fuel door.

ah yes... I like them very much..
forgive me, I forgot if you said, did you make those? If so, sell them to me, and make another set... 8) really..... ;) you know there is SOMETHING different you would do if you had to do them again.. here is your chance.. lol
If you didn't make'em, where can I get a set? ;D
As far as the antenna... the mirror would go first... I would have warning.. you'd have to smash the quarter too, as the fender bulge and tire sticks out further than the mount.... WHEN I scrub it off on something, I will put it inside the bed.. :D
Thanks man, I like the style of your rig.. that is what mine will look like soon enough.. battle scars.. if you ain't scrapin, you ain't wheelin hard enough.. but I want to give it a chance to survive... got my eye on a cheap one close to my house, for sale.. has a GREAT body.. simply no rust. Mine is a bucket, I find new rust all the time.. but the mechanicals are fine.. undercoating did a good job on the frame too..
OK, running off at the fingers again. I am trying to get a wheeling trip to Haspin Acres in Indiana this weekend, but the jeep guys aren't too enthusiastic...LOL.. they got showed up bad last time, by a little 235/75 open diffed street truck... I think the 31's just help all that much more..

The amazing thing is that these wheels actually turn out to be lighter than the us mags that I had on previously... saving bout 7-10#'s per wheel.
just my $.02
-
What did they weigh? I remember you posted that once before. Sounds like a great price, if they can hold up to racing, they should be fine for wheeling, but how big are the holes ? They fit over our hubs??
the 3" BACKSPACE (I am assuming they are erroneously calling backspace, offset?) would be perfect for me. I wonder how much lighter they are than my crawlers?

If you are looking for rock sliders I would look into Shrock's

Are those on lifted Tracks? If so, then yes, they would work... I want them no lower than the bottom of a stock (non body lifted) Tracker... I want to have to cut out most of my rockers to put them on...
-
Actually, both www.shrockworks.com (http://www.shrockworks.com) and www.designsofsteel.com (http://www.designsofsteel.com) said they would make them for 0", 2" and 3" of body lift. If you ordered them for 2" of body lift, then you could just cut out 2" of rocker instead. I don't think either vender has the rock rails for kicks on their site yet, but I'm sure if you called them you could find out when they will be ready and any other details you wanted.
-
Thanks... I am looking into a member here making me a set... and I have an email into Shrock... I will check the others too.. I think you are right, a set for a 2" lift would be just about perfect.
thanks for the help

Have you seen what Digger did for his poor rockers? No loss of ground clearance.

Naw... that's not an error... they REALLY are what the specs are. If you take some time to investigate the site you'll find that there is a section that explains the specs of the wheels. BTW, the weight listed for the medium weight 15x8 is 24#'s. If you have alloys be sure and check their weights my US mags weighed in around 30#'s each. I was pleasently surprised... not to mention that many of the alloy rims have the valve stems located way out to the edges of the rim so that they can get whacked by rocks and such, not a problem with the steelys cuz they're set way in.

Hello All,
Those are bart wheels that are on Days site...Used for racing...Not DOT approved, like it matters...But they are drilled for 5/8 inch studs so you will have a hard tire keeping them tight.Trust me I've raced dirt track cars for 4 yrs...The family has been in to racing 15 yrs...I got some of those wheels at my shop..And also AERO wheels which are better.I've ran them down to 13 lbs on a purestock car and still kept them on the bead..They have whats called the extreme bead.Take about 65lbs to get them on..but once there on they are on.But all the ones we have are 5 on 5....Might look in to Drilling out my drums for 5/8 studs and 1" lug nuts that would kick |removethispart|@$$ on the tracker!!!I know the rear can be done not sure about the frt.
Just my .02$ Tom K.

ok, just talked to my builder. He wants $200 shipped for a "kit". You get 2 18" bars, one end notched for where the slider will weld to, then the main body of the slider (which will already be welded together). You need to cut the bars to the proper length, then weld those to the main body of the slider, then weld the whole mess to the frame. I had to notch the pinch weld the runs under the body to clearence for the sliders. You'll need to add a gusset to each frame mount also.
I'm redoing my shock mounts when my welder gets here next week or so. Making them out of square tubing, as these ones flex too much and are tweaking the frame some. Also moving them a bit lower to limit uptravel and provide more droop. 8)
Also, my buddy will do all the work at his shop also, which is located in Carrolton, OH. I don;t know where you live (didn't look it up), but taking it too him would be by far the best way to go!
Edit: ALSO! I forgot, everything you named that I would have to rip off to get to the antenna, I did, in one fell swoop (minus the mirrors, since I don't run doors!). Was going thru an obstacle named twister, and the is a good sized rock sticking out of a wall and when you hit the right section, the ass end gets tossed right at that rock and *CRUNCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCH*. Dents, bent sheetmetal and a chipped tail light. 8)
-
Carrolton isn't that far at all... I could take it by there..
I am now leaning towards doing the steel welded to the rocker...
I could just get a set of 2" lifted sliders, and cut the rockers out though... Lots of them around, no cutting or welding, and they are only what.... $240-250?
Hell, I don't know.. I might just go buy a damned pipe bender.. LOL

Since you live in Cinncinasty, just take it too him. Would probably be like 200 give or take a couple bucks, and you wouldn;t have to lift a finger. Just tell him you want sliders like mine and he'll do em up, you won;t have to weld a thing! Then we all could go play in the woods and trails he has cut in his "backyard". ;D
-
NOW were talkin!
How do I get in touch with your buddy?
-
errrr.... nevermind on that trip... LOL, wrong Carrollton, I was either thinking of Carrollton Kentucky, or West Carrollton Ohio... Carrollton Ohio, is about 3 hours from here..
Little far for a set of sliders.. I guess I am just going to have to hone my welding skills... and get a bender.. LOL...

Have you checked on a bender??? Mine was almost 2 grand with 4 dies...Angle cutter for pipe was 150 from Jegs, uses hole saw blades"uses them fast might get 100 cuts"But I do a lot of tubing work...racecar chassis, bumpers, nerf bars...(all for racecars) I've made some heep frt bumpers.
And got a few welders...1 Gas,3 migs,1 Alum...Oh but it's a pain (big spoolgun)And afew old AC/DC sticks in the corner that havent been used in 10 years...

Yeah, I have checked into them, I don't need a big fancy one, I just need a set of sliders... LOL..
Hey, anyway, I thought you were going to bend me some up? 8) 8)

Hey, I make the hour drive down to his place just fine in my tracker, and it is NOT very street friendly! It'll be worth your time, come down on a Sat morn, have him do them up, and we can paint em and everything! He does some kick ass work!! 8)

Yeah, but that is 6 hours of driving, in the Tracker.... on one day.... for a set of skids... LOL.. call me crazy, but I would rather be on the trails... Hobgoblin is going to bend me a set... Thanks though.... any good trails up there though? as I would still be into coming up and wheeling some time.. I do have a trailer and tow rig I use for log distance stuff...

Wellsville, OH! Probably about 2-3 hrs from ya. Pretty good wheelin. Do a search on google for Oaktree sportsman club. It's an easily accessable spot to park tow rigs at. Kinda pricy tho, and no camping area, but there is another spot to camp at in the area.

They have over 76 THOUSAND acres of everything from gravel roads, to "RattleRock" which is full on rock climbing, and everything in between... it's just so HUGE, you can keep going back, and you get new stuff all the time.
I am hooked on it.........
