Title: Air down in the Snow?
Post by: Twins on March 02, 2005, 01:36:45 PM: I'm heading to the great white north this weekend (Ok just Traverse City) for a trail ride/snow run and I'd like to make a good showing with my Track. Ã‚Â I'll be the only Zuk there and probably the only rig that's not fullsize. Ã‚Â I'm running 29.5X11.5 radial swampers on 8" MT classic 2's. Ã‚Â I ran 8f-6r psi at the dunes and got around pretty good until I went to 5f-3r and went 65 % of silver lake in 2wd. Ã‚Â There's about 8" of powder snow on top of 4-5" of hard wet stuff. Ã‚Â I have 2" suspension and 3" body lifts. Ã‚Â

Any suggestions?..........and yes I'll grab pics. ;D

BRING A SPARE! ::) Just in case you blow a bead. I never have in the snow but Ive seen it happen, without a spare that can really be a pain in the ass. Good luck and kick some ass!

I agree that your chances of that happening are increased but thats what the spare is for. How much more of a risk that is depends on your type of wheel and tire combo

When I aired to 5-3 was when they really started to flod (new word to me I called it squash) and put down a big footprint. The difference was amazing, it sounds cocky but it took some of the challenge out of driving at the dunes. I can't wait to show the full size guys how this thing gets around, I've enjoyed it every time Jeep people see me motor past.

I'll post some pics Sun or Mon.

My wife is bringing our Yukon so I can tow it home if I break it. :o

Post by: Digger on March 03, 2005, 10:04:20 AM: I run 31x9.50 Swamper TSL radials and I recently noticed one of them looking like it was bulging a little more than the others. I checked it and the pressure was 1-2 PSI!!! Seems the bead wasn't sealed too well and it allowed the air to escape when some salt got in there... what surprised me was that the Tracker wasn't heavy enough to actually flatten the tire all the way, only about half-way. Does that mean the sidewalls are stiff enough to allow me to run flat? LOL!!! (I don't think I'll try it anytime soon... lol)

Why are you bring the Yukon if you think it might break down? Even for a Zook, that Yukon might be too heave to tow home.

Yep, one of the 2 Ive ever blown. Thats what the spare is for. I slapped it into that hole hard though. If it had been aired up it probabally would have bent an axle flange.

On some private land near Honor, they have done this for years but this year is the first I've been able to go. 20-30 trucks all full size. i can't wait to tear it up. ;D ;D

Post by: purevil71 on March 03, 2005, 03:53:03 PM: I'm running 31x10.5's and usually run them around 6-8PSI and have very good luck with that. This last really deep snow we got, 8PSI semed to work nicely
When I bump up to my new 33 TSL's I'll be letting ALL of the air out of them and driving around the yard for a few days to help break in the sidewalls. Took about a week with the 31's doing that before the sidewalls really started to flex.
