Title: WACKO IDLE
Post by: ROSS on February 27, 2005, 03:04:11 AM
PUT IN FUEL INJECTION 2 WEEKS AGO. IT WAS RUNNING GOOD. NOW IT WILL IDLE AT 900 THEN GO TO 3400 FOR KNOW REASON. THEN DROP BACK DOWN. SOMETIMES AT IDLE SMELLS TO RICH. COULD IT BE FUEL PRESSURE REGULATOR? SOMETIMES SEEMS BETTER IF MAP SENSOR IS UNPLUGGED BUT NOT RIGHT. GOING CRAZY.

Since you've got a 1.6 FI this may help: http://bbs.off-road.com/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=offroadsuzuki&Number=1268180&page=3&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=&fpart=1

Fuel injection is dependent on all of the
sensors to function properly, if for some
reason your MAP sensor is not right, you
will get funny runnings, I know that if my
MAP gets unplugged it runs very rich, if
yours runs better with no MAP signal. or
rather the map is reading basicly wide open
throttle, which means full fuel, you might have
a bad MAP or your fuel pressure is too low,
by the way, what is your fuel pressure ?
what fuel pump did you use ?

BOUGHT THE HIGH PRESSURE PUMP FROM TRAIL TOUGH.

Did you check the pressure?
Fuel pressure is critical to the
EFI system running right, you
should have 36 PSI if the regulator
is doing it's job right, also did you
install a return line?  without it a
stock pump will blow off the internal
pressure relief at about 55-60 PSI,
I have no idea what pump TT sells,
so I don't know what pressure it
might run at or blow off at.

I do know that the stock TBI injector
will not work at over 80 PSI, it simply
can't open with that much pressure
behind it.

Good Luck

DO YOU THINK IT COULD BE CAUSED BY A BAD INTAKE GASKET? I THINK I'M GETTING A LITTLE ANTI-FREEZE SMELL OUT THE EXAUST.  AND MY WATER LEVEL SEEMS LOW ALL OF A SUDDEN. JUST WANDERING.

A bad leak that was sucking air could
cause this sort of strange idle, sure it's
not a blown head gasket ?

DON'T THINK SO. WAS RUNNING GOOD TILL I CHANGED TO EFI. THINK I GOT A BAD GASKET. GET A NEW ONE IN THE MORNING FREE OF CHARGE. OUR NAPA GUY IS A GOOD MAN. NOT THAT BAD TO CHANGE. HOPEFULLY IT'LL BE RUNNING GREAT BY TOMMORROW NIGHT.
