No, you need to remove the 4 little screws
that hold this plate to the bearing nut, this
round thing keeps the preload from backing
off of the bearings.

Unless you are farther in than I think then
a little tap with a cold chisel and hammer
should do the trick

Yeah i took out the 4 little screws, and took off the plate, and that round thing i smacked it a few times with a hamer and chisel pretty good and it did not budge, it has lots of threaded holes and then that ones that are not threaded, i took a bolt and set it in the hole that was threaded and smacked it until I cut the bolt in half with the cold chisle!
its on  there boy I tell ya what.

any other thoughs, or is this the proper aplication if a friends hand an a sledge hammer? ;D  LOL

i hope you catch the meaning. do i just need a BFH?

You can beat them off, it's getting them back on thats the problem.

They torque down to around 50 ft. lbs.

Use a blunt cold chisel so it
doesn't cut the nut, I don't think
they are left hand thread, but
make sure you are not tightening it

If that doesn't work, I guess it's off
to get a socket that fits, it's the propper
way, but I hate to buy all those special
tools that a hammer and chisel works
fine on

My thoughts exactly, When I did the axels on the sub, the wrench 1 1/2 inch box end 96.00  :o  2" socket for upper ball 60.00 :o adapter for 1/2" drive to 3/4" drive 12.00  :o :o
4 foot breaker bar for above mentioned 70.00 I mean holy ______ !!!!!  >:(

so now I have all the tools that i will never use again, and to mention all the bolts had to be torqued to or over 100lb

You have to really smack them to break them loose. Getting them tight again is tricky also. If I have to do it again I am going to make a tool

Have you checked a local tool rental place?

A lot of Auto Parts stores wil also rent you tools for cheap or even free.  Advance Auto and O'Reilly's come to mind...

Hawk Suzuki will rent them.  I can't remember the rate, I don't think it was too much.  I just ended up buying the socket.
