A guy I work with told me about another guy we work with Tracker's engine blew up. He was wondering if I needed any parts before he scrapped it. So I asked if I could buy the whole thing for $100. The guy that owns Tracker was off today. So I'll find out tomorrow. Only thing I know is the engine is blown and its an auto. So I'm hoping its a head gasket or something simple like that. Or worse come to worst hopefully the top is in good shape and some other dumb mics. things my Tracker needs.
What usually pops on the 8V and 16V motors? I dont know if it was beat on, cared for, no history.

If not cared for, the weak spot seems to be the timing belt...
If the body is fair, it's probably worth saving...

It's worth $100 even in poor condition, if your not planning to drive it part it out on ebay and make some $$

i just bought a 89 and a 91 for $600. both in good shape. both 5 speeds. got the 89 running for $20. needed new fuel relay but now have to fix the sloppy shifter. the 91 started right up and drove and then the ecm went out. but im fixin that myself. just saw them siting outside of this guys house and asked if he wanted to sell them.

I'm planning on buying it pretty much regardless of whats wrong with the motor. It'll be nice to have a parts vehicle for my Tracker. I'm hoping the timing belt went or a head gasket. Something not too expensive. Then if its rusty and not in the best shape, it'll make a nice little trail rig. If its in good shape, then it'll make a nice little work beater.

I found out its...
1995, Tin Top, Auto, Auto Hubs, 100,000 miles, I seen it once in the parking lot, but thats it. I am going either this weekend or next to pick it up.
He said he was driving down the highway, it all of a sudden lost power, made some ticking noise, and a puff of smoke and it stalled. So it sounds like it thru a rod. Junkyards want $450 for a motor. So I dont know what I'm doing with it. I might get creative with an engine. Too bad I sold my 4.3 and 700R4.

man, where do you live. $450 for an engine sounds great. A rebuild kit costs nearly that much. In Tucson the only engine I can find is $750.
Any guarantee on the $450 engines?
Thanks,
Jeff
