my 91 sidekick starts very hard after sitting for two days but after you get it started and warmed up you can shut it off and it will start back up just fine its like its flooded with gas are the injectors leaking off and if so why???? also there is lots of black smoke when it first starts
-
Had the same problem with mine... It turned out that the fuel pressure regulator developed a pinhole leak in the diagphram and when I shut it down, the built up fuel line pressure leaked into the TBI through the small vacuum hose attached to the regulator...
Take off your TBI intake cover, run it till its hot and when you shut it down, see if there is fuel leaking thru the vacuum port that controls the regulator.. I thought mine was a leaky injector till I noticed the dripping fuel..
-
thanks ! i,ll try that in the morning
-
no thats not the problem i think i have a bad injector
-
Take the intake tube off, run the engine and shut down.
Does fuel drip from the injector? if not it's good.
How many miles do you drive this Trucklet?
Is the weather cold? might there be some water
frozen in the injector, is it dirty and need a fuel
treatment?
Some things to think about, more info is better
-
check for compression when cold
-
well i guess i was wrong on the year or somthing because this sidekick has multi port injection but all of your advice is still helpfull i wonder if the injectors can be clean manualy do they come apart ?
-
this is my dads sidekick i wasn,t sure about the year its a jlx 16v it maybe as new as a 92

Hard starting when engine is cold can be a sign of
a bad IAT or CLT sensor, (intake air and coolant temp)
once warm the engine dosen't need the extra enrichment
to start and run properly. Spray starting fluid to check
the temp sensors, if the engine starts easily I would look
at the temp sensors

if u start it every day it starts fine a little black smoke two days alot of black smoke and very hard to start like 8 to 10 trys then runs very rough and smokes till it warms up its getting to much fuel
or to little spark, plugs where changed not to long ago wires also he said it was missing badly is why he did that still thinking about changing plugs again
-
I think you said that allready, my bad.
I would lean towards leaking injectors,
tho it would clean out after it got started,
not keep blowing black exhaust. It could
still be IAT or CLT, but they would be reporting
a very cold temp, and the computer is adding
way too much fuel for the real outside temp.
Good Luck

try starting at 1/4 or half throttle
-
ok thanks for all the info ill try again tomorow let u know what happens im done for the day

well put a fuel pressure gauge on it went up to 40 psi then after i shut the key off and let it set pressure droped to 30 psi in about 2 hrs then held there all nite i now have the rack out and pressured up and watching injectors i made a jig to hould the injectors in. when you trun the motor over like your trying to start it the injectors spray looks just fine
