Title: my exhaust
Post by: Maroon Monsoon on February 21, 2006, 10:16:20 AM
almost a year ago I made a custom exhaust system for my 2.5 litre GV. It was  Y back system with a high flow cat and a magnaflow. not it is the same except I put a flange before the muffler so I could disconnect it to show all the rivers what's up as far as sound, I tucked it up as close to the body as possible and I put on a 3 inch tip so it's a tadd louder and sounds bigger now.. the last picture is how I did it before. I just wasn't happy with it so I spent an afternoon and half a day to redo it all and I am happy with the results. I overlooked my panhard bar a bit so it may barely touch it when fully flexed or just barely not touch it.. not sure, not a big deal

High and tight, THe way to do it.
Does it rattle your teeth with the fart can on?

what fart can? I guess a magnaflow is similar to a fart blower since they are both glass packs.

yea, thanks. as you can see I had it sagging really far down before and just got tired of it being so crappy like that so I made it right. it's only really loud once you hit 60 or 65 since 65 is where it's at 3k and it's really loud there.. shout to the passenger with the windows closed loud. it's pretty quiet at really low RPM's and idling but if I half throttle it it's kind of loud. I want it a little louder still

3 inch tip
I guess you can't really call that a fart can ;)
I'm working on redoing my 4dr exhaust with a high flow cat and a magnaflow or a Flowmaster.
Not now but really soon. theres not much left of the factory exhaust.

jdmcrx, nice work. I do like the power difference a ton. I have had custom exhaust on it for almost a year and I got tired of how crappy it was as far as hanging down low.. the bottom photo shows it. My redo didn't give me anymore power as far as I know, I did end up using two mandrel bends that I found in the dumpster allong with all the other piping and bends. How's that flowie sound and what kind did you use?

HotRod, that's pretty cool that you're redoing your exhaust too. A flowie would be pretty cool on that I think, I like my mag so either way you'd be getting a really nice muffler. The people at the exhaust shop said that I'd get allot more interior resonance with a flowie than a mag because the mag is supposed to get rid of some of it with the glass inside. I have a good deal of resonance around 3k and above but you know, I love it. the mag sounds really smooth and with my 3 inch tip it sounds more like the 6 cylinder it is.. you know, deeper and throatier. my main advice is to do a pretty big tip or bigger pipe at the end for good tone

We've got a Magnaflow on our GV.  I had the shop just whack off the stock muffler and put on a 2" in/out Magnaflow in it's place.  We noticed a definate increase in performance and get up and go.  A good little "seat of the pants" increase so I can't complain.  The wife really likes the sound and so do I.  It's louder all around but not screaming and getting cops' attention.

HotRod, go Magnaflow.  Decent price, absolutely straight through, and nice stainless steel.   I've had both and a Magnaflow is head and shoulders above a Flowmaster in flow, value, and build quality.  I used to be one of those guys that had a Flowmaster 40 series on their 350 powered Chevy and loved the loud, loud tone but man, now I wouldn't think of it again.

my magnaflow is screaming once I get the R's a little ways up there.. it's hella loud at 3k and above.. I did do a high flow secondary cat and 2-1/4 to the mag, 2.5 after with a 3 inch tip... yea, I really do love the sound, it's so smooth and when it's screaming loud if I accelerate with a bit higher RPM's or if I'm cruising at 50 or higher, it's just so freaking awesome.. people look at it when I pass them on the highway... oh yea, it's beastly sounding.. I was just wondering what a flowmaster sounded like on the 2.5 since I've never heard one

nice, I got a noticable amount of power out of my exhaust as well.. I almost wish I would have not used a secondary cat.. but at least I have a high flow one there

Ours is definately louder and by no means quiet, but it's not like all the rednecks rolling around here with Flowmasters (not saying everyone with a Flowmaster is a redneck, just sick of the sound) on their pickup trucks that attempt to deafen everyone within miles.

The funny part is the 2" straight through Magnaflow on our GV is louder than the 2.5" straight through Magnaflow on my 4.0L V6 Ranger. :P

I'm so sick of flowies on small blocks.  Don't get me wrong, it sounds good, just EVERYONE does it.  I don't even own a Zuk, but I'm on here just cause you guys are different.  This exhaust stuff is just one thing that seperates the Zuks from the Jeeps and Chevs.

I had a '92 Chevy Blazer K1500 with a TBI 350 breathing out through a 3" Flowmaster 40 series Delta Flow.  It was good and loud.  I loved it...until I got out of the Marines and drove almost 3000 miles back to Michigan with it...and my dad bitching about the noise the whole way...and the little voice in my head starting to agree with him that it was kinda loud... :P

My buddy drives his 305 c.i. 1500 around in 2nd at 55...  2.5" exhaust, with no tailpipes, so it's all right under the cab.  I want to shoot him.

I like my dad's 40 series on his 318 dakota.. 2.5 I believe off the manifolds to 3 inch.. I put on a 3.5 inch tip for him and it sounds better like that

it would be nice to sound more original.. like, say.. my exhuast (brushing off shoulder) but it sounds good and it's not really deafening inside when you are cruising down the highway.. the zuk actually is... at 60 you shout to have a conversation but it's all good, it's a gnarly beast.. it actually does hurt my ears cruising at 60 but I don't mind
