Title: glass pack?
Post by: blasterfan on February 21, 2006, 03:07:40 PM
i am wanting to get a custom exhaust made up by a shop in town here. my ideas are:

no cat
2inch from the cat to muffler
glass pack muffler ( cherry bomb)
than maybe 2.5 duals from the muffle back

what do you guys think?

Not a huge fan of glass packs on a smaller engines. I would say look at a dynomax of something similar. Other than that doesn't sound to bad.

Glass packs sound fine after a turbo,
but the turbo upgrade will cost a little
more than a good mellow sound muff

My rig is set up with a custom 2" front to back with calmini header with a cat and a cherry bomb and i hate it driving down the highway is way to loud.

I would reconsider getting a cherry.

i got a red hot glass pack in my sami, 1.6L, no cat, 2.5"  seems to work very well... sounds quite nice actually, use to sound better when i actually had a strait tail pipe... but that only lasted one trip out :P... its only loud when i want it to be ;D

El cheapo turbo2 muffler. They sound good and give decent power with 2" exhaust. Got that and a calmini header on lil red and I love the sound.

Stay off the trails and out of the woods. Out here anyway you need baffles to be legal. Glass Packs don't count as spark arresters.

I like the sound of mine it is 2 inch no cat and turbo muffler ( sounds like jeep off of MASH)
but there is a humm in the 2500-3000rpm range and the on other prob with my kick is the placement of the exit is between my gas tank and the mud flap and now it swirls the gasses up and into the back so watch that. don't know where too exit mine right now

This is a good point. Sometimes, Rangers do check for this. So, if you're going to use your rig to run trails please get an exhaust that won't light the woods on fire.

Thanks, Eric

I just went and got an allied turbo muffler sounds good in acceleration is a good compliment to the short ram intake, and it only cost 84.00 installed..  its not super loud just crusin around but when you hammer down on the throttle you know its there  the intake helps that ofcorse, however i have to lengther the intake a bit so it sounds better.

Well, here is a clip with what they called a Turbo Pack II,  it is shaped like a cherrybomb, but about half as long.. this is WITH a catalytic converter (Magnaflow) and 2" exhaust to the bumper

http://media.putfile.com/Tracker-TurboPakII

It sounds good.. you can't hear it too clearly here.. and I really didn't get into it.. but it does sound nice when you get the r's up a bit...

we also have a 98 decibel limit or it is noise pollution altho they only nail you if you do something stupid like 4 wheel drift your kick on a highway off ramp......luckily it was at night .....but as long as you have a cat and meet noise levels and tailpipe exit you're ok
it has too exit behind the rear axle.

so many laws .....which one should I break first   aaaahhhh the voices speak in riddles

hehehehe!!!
