Title: drum service limit
Post by: KickTurn on March 01, 2006, 11:40:05 PM
So, the standard drum size is 10.00" and the drum service limit is 10.07" . . . What's up with that?  Seems like a tiny amount of allowable wear and/or turning: 0.07" or two millimeters!  Much less allowable wear than, say, my Rangers.

Any input?

Thanks!

If you let them wear too far you might have trouble getting them off. However I make that 1.778mm, which is less than a 1mm of wear 'groove', I wouldn't replace them with that little wear on them. I find it hard to believe that they will run out of adjustment or that the pistons will extend past the seals as long as you don't run the shoes right down.

Edit: The FSM for the Jap swb gives a wear limit of 0.08in dia. Mine were worn much more than that but they they did leak a little when the shoes got down to the metal (I hate sand!)
