I have never been, but would like to go tomorrow (Saturday March 4th)
Can anyone help me out with where to go? Where to park my trailer? Things to see, trails to stay away from.. etc...
I searched the internet and can't seem to find any answers.. but I did hear it was a good place to go wheeling???
-
Well, from what I can see, the National Forest Service has closed the forest to jeeps and such..
Does ANYONE know where I can go wheeling?!?!?!
Getting kinda tired of Haspin acres...
Anywhere within 150 miles of Cincy??
I guess I might have to go to Attica!
-
They have not closed the Natural Bridge area, they are legal roads.

I've been wanting to ride at Slade for a couple of years now but it doesn't look like I'll be able to make it this weekend. You might check some of the Ky Offroad clubs' websites as they frequent Slade. I believe I saw a post on the Kamikaze Mudder site from someone looking for someone to ride their this weekend. Here's some links:

There are some guys on this board who ride at Haspin often so they might can recommend other places to ride as well:

Don't forget to take pics, whereever you go!

Well, change of plans. Hubby asked me tonight about 9pm if I wanted to ride at Livingston tomorrow!!! ;D ;D ;D Wish I'd known sooner, to let you know, Quaddawg. Its south of Lexington, just off I75 so wouldn't be much farther than Slade for you. I'll PM you our cell phone number in case you get this message in time to make it down. Give us a call, assuming we'll have service there. We probably won't be there til after 8am, as its about a 2 hour drive for us. Bringing my Kick and his Samurai. Hope to see ya!!

ahhhhhh, got this a bit late!! :(
We are headed to the Badlands....... Next time!
-
Badlands is awesome place to wheel! Keep safe!!

Quaddawg,
Do a little research in the areas surrounding Natural Bridge State Park. A few of the Camp Parks (Not associated with the gov.) started cutting their own trails in the areas surrounding the park when they heard about the proposal to close the trails. It has been a few years since I have been there, but we stayed in a Camp Park about 3-4 miles south of the parks entrance and did all the wheeling we could stand on private property ;D Try internet searching to find some #'s to call.
Another good and scenic ride is Big South Fork. It only has a few challanging areas but it is worth the trip. The South Loop Trail is hours of beautiful scenery

Cool ZP... Thanks!
I will check that out!
KYMike, I am in Ohio, on the river.. Sayler Park west of Downtown Cincy by about 14 miles.
I have talked to Roy and Jeff (I think it was Jeff) at POR... as a matter of fact, they sold my my BDS suspension lift..
Nice guys.. they know their stuff on Jeeps.. that's for sure. They invited me down to their offroad park.. I need to call them.. The park is still fighting beaurocratic BS, and isn't open.. but you can still go if you are a private invited guest, and I guess they do that quite a bit.
I would definately like to check them out soon.
I would LOVE to get with a club in my area, one that wheels every weekend... I know not everyone can wheel EVERY weekend.. but if there was a ride planned every weekend, at least there would be something going on when folks got a chance to get out..
-
Wanna do down there this weekend?
-
We're going back to Livingston again this weekend cause it was just too much fun last week, not to do again! We'll have a couple of Samis, my Kick and maybe a Rubicon with us. If you make it down to that neck of the woods, keep an eye out for us, Jeff. We'll be there Saturday and Sunday both.ÂÂ
-
I don't think I will have the Kick together by this weekend. The CV/axle isn't in yet (lol, got two passengers, and a spare driver side coming....) and I have the 5.62's to go in too..
PLUS it's rainy, and I don't have the garage available this week.
BOO HOO, I am going to have to pass on a ride this weekend... first weekend missed in 4...
-
Thats cool, If I can't find anyone to go to Natural Bridge I may see you guys at Livingston on saturday. What CB channel do you run?

Shucks, I am sorry we missed ya. I was looking forward to checking out your LWB. Don't get a chance to see one of those often!ÂÂ
We had a great time! Ran into two Sami's and two Kick's, first thing when we went in. Nice to see so many Zuks. We played on the pyramid and the Playground at the river. I only got stuck once, when I bottomed out in the mud! Two of the Sami's got stuck too. Lots of fun down there and the river is beatiful!

Here's a few stair shots. We looked for the "Stairsteps" all weekend, with no luck. But had lots of fun playing around on these. ÂÂ

I had to get a tow up one of the rock ledges near the schoolbus on Saturday, after I slid the back end around on the edge of a drop, trying to get over the ledge. Husband made the same spot in his unlifted Sami, but he is the best I've ever seen at picking a line.
This hill is my finest moment in my Kick to date I think. ;D First time I did it last weekend, I couldn't believe it! I was even prouder of my Kick, when my husband failed to make it in his Sami! Seemed even easier today cause it was a little damp. I know I wouldn't have been able to make it before I swapped in the 5.12s. Unfortunately, my friend Jerry broke the ujoint on his rear driveshaft when he tried to follow me today. He's lifted on 31s,with a tcase reduction and rear locker. Had a replacement DS he thought, but it ended up being a 12MM from his wife's Zuk instead of the 14MM he needed, so we were done for the day.

Really proud to say I drove the Kick 2 hours at a steady 4000RPM, wheeled it fairly hard for two days, and another 2 hrs at 4K back home, without a flaw, two weekends in a row!!!  ;D ;D ;D

It's good to see that the school bus trail is back to normal. The last time I was there they had filled it in. No ledges, no ruts, nothing. I drove it in 2wd. Good to see it's back to norm.

You set a date for that yet? I'd really like to make that trip.
-
No, I posted for people to throw out some dates but no one has yet.
-
I have my broken CV from the Badlands fixed.. and the 5.62's installed...
I am ready to go again..
anyone planning on going somewhere in the Tri-State again (OH,IN,KY)
Anyone?
-
I'm game for saturday.
-
IF, I can make this work. Where would you like to meet, and when?
I can't think of why I couldn't make Saturday work!
Where is this prerunning you are wanting to do?
-
I start in Slade KY and follow trails and forestry roads as far as I can. I can make it all the way too the TN line but not all in one day. Do you trailer or drive yours?
-
I trailer..... now that I have my lower gears, It is a bit better on the highway.. but with the spool and all... I really hate wearing out my tires..
I might have to bring some kids along this weekend if I go, there is a neighborhood drama going on... but they are good kids...
-
It can be a 1-1.5 hour road drive back to the starting point. No problem on the kids, I have 2 myself.
-
Well, I never really considered driving it on the road for more than a few miles at a time, since I spooled it and stuck these swampers on it.. I mean, I am sure it is capable, but I just did a driveway eyeball alignment on the camber... I take it apart too much to pay to have someone set it.. LOL....
I don't know... this thing rides rough as hell when I pump the tires up to 25 lbs for road travel...
Lemme think about it..
are you going anyway?
-
Yep :D
-
Well....... once again, I am going to have to pass on Slade..
I am going out to Haspin and ride around in circles for a few hours... see if I can get her stuck.
If anyone is going to Haspin, let me know.
-
Hey, Jeff, sounds like DB might get crowded this weekend (Ha Ha). Ky Krawlers and a couple of other clubs are riding out of the 49er at Livingston Saturday morning!
-
I'll be farther north, I'm starting at Slade and will probally make it all the way too S-Tree.
-
I preran the first half of the Daniel Boone run and it went great. I started at Slade and went all the way to Livingston using almost all trail and gravel roads. This trip will be a blast for people of all skill level.
Oh, Natural Bridge is still open with no gates or place where gates will be put up anywhere that I saw. I went the entire length of the narrows trail and saw no signs that it had been closed like someone else had mentioned. I ran into a group of about 15 rigs and none of them had seen anything either.
-
Nice!!!! Cant wait to get out!!!!
-
I "Might" be kidless next weekend if anyone is going to this area..
If a trip is planned, let me know.. I will join if at all possible...
