Title: Aluminum Engine Block Question (Urgent)
Post by: Vit-A-Jim on March 07, 2006, 01:44:05 PM
Hi guys,

Does anyone know which is the alloy of the engine block of Sidekick engines 1.6 8v?

I have a small crack in the aluminum part of the engine, and I would like to know which welding rod should I use.

60t6 would be a good start but I would tig weld it myself.  or use some of the new space age epoxy.

Hi there

Fromwhat I have been able to dig out, and this is not for sure.

It is a casting, likely 7075ST. I cannot confirm that from a factory source but it is the best info I have on record.

Thanks alot guys. I think I'll swap to 1.6 16valve and avoid all the pain in my head. And when I find more info, and have less stress 'll fix it and sell it, or put it on a sami project.

Do you have any info (or a known topic) about 1.6 8v --> 16v coversion?
