Title: Track/Kick on Rockwells?
Post by: joe_and_jeep on March 13, 2006, 07:24:18 PM
I know its been done before but having some trouble finding pics/write ups.  Even Sami on Rocks would be usefull.

I picked up a 95 Tin Top Tracker for $100, gorgeous body/interior with a blown motor.  Then I traded a Holley Carb for a 4.3 Vortec and picked up a TH350 and T-Case.  Then today I just picked up a set of 2.5 ton Rockwells for $200.  So I was thinking about going all out with it.

Crap, that sounds like fun... overkill... I love it...  What T case do you have?

What gearing do the Rocks have in them??

I wish you were a little closer.... you sound like you would be a lot of fun to work with in a shop.....

The Rockwells are 6.72 and U-Joint style.  T-case, I am gonna use either a NP205, NP208, NP207.  I have all of the 3, so whatever space allows.  Maybe a doubler setup.  I'll know when I get that far.  I gotta finish my YJ before I can start on this.  I just fell into these deals and had to grab them.  I had no plans for this, it just happened.

They are in good shape.  They're gonna need the normal stuff.  I even got good 42" unidirectional Military tires too.  I think it will be way overkill but it will give me something to mess with.

No doubt it has seen better days but still runs like an animal.  HP44/9in with T-Case doubler.  Definately a "beater" but I like it way too much to get rid of.

Them look like Mogs under there.  Mogs are sweet.  That is how I want my Tracker to look, great stance.

Exactly, thats the way I want it to look.  I been discussing this with my local wheelin' club.  And the build is gonna start in May!  I am gonna go thru with this and build a Track/Kick on Rockwells.  Buildup thread to start soon.  When I start getting more pieces and gather tech.

So far...

1995 Tin Top Tracker - Gonna keep the body intact as much as possible.
4.3 Vortech V6
TH350 Trans
T-Case - Undecided.  Probably a NP208 or NP207/NP208 Doubler
Rockwells
42in Tires for now, 46in XML's later
Pinion Brakes
Hydro Assist Steering
Ford Saginaw Steering Box
Full Cage
Wristed 3 link suspension up front
4 Link rear - Undecided
TJ Coils

I got most of the big parts.  I need to buy pinion brakes and heim joints but pretty much everything else I have.  Need the odds and ends, nuts and bolts, etc...  But I think I can get it done this summer.

A 1.6L would push those gear ratios around just fine i'd reckon.
