Title: 93 Tracker Fuel Pressure for Emission Test (Fuel Pressure/Leak Test)
Post by: kozaz on March 14, 2006, 07:18:49 AM
My brother in law dropped off his 93 Tracker because it failed the Fuel Pressurization Test at Emissions.  The Emissions place said his gas cap is good, but there is a leak in the fuel system.

I looked at his fuel system yesterday, the only leak (Wet spot) I could find was a dry rotted hose that fed the brass fuel filter in the engine compartment.

I bet when they installed the clamp on this hose, the weight of the clamp may have caused it to leak.  The problem is, this leak would have not been on the side of the pressure test.

I'm starting to wonder if their clamp actually sealed off the rubber hose during the test?  If it did not, I bet 20 bucks this was the source of the leak.

But just to make sure, I plan on buying a spare gas cap, drilling it, and installing a valve stem.  So I can pressurize the fuel system.  Then spray the lines with soapy water and look for Mr. Bubbles.

Does anybody know what's the fuel pressure PSI for a 93 Tracker, the motor has a air cleaner that says something to the effect of  ? Fuel Injection.  I can't remember,  I assume its a throttle body.

I'm getting so desprate to own a Tracker, that I'm actually working on somebody elses! LoL  :)

I have a 91 Kick, I just passed emissions (AZ), but failed the pressure test. I cannot see any wet spots anywhere, but could smell a slight odor of gas underneath. Could this be the fuel filter? Or would it be the canister on the tank? I don't want to replace all the hoses, filter and canister and still not pass. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

a bad check valve in the fuel pump can cause leakdown when the vehicle is off. i had a ranger in my shop last weak that had that problem. put in a new fuel pump and she was good to go.
