I bought a 95 Sidekick a few weeks ago and I'm slowly fixing it up. One problem I'm having is the clutch doesn't engage until it's almost to the floor, then it disengages as soon as I start lifting. To adjust this, do I tighten/loosen the locknuts at the end of the cable? The Haynes manual says something about adjusting the bracket that the cable is connected to, but it doesn't look adjustable. Any help will be appreciated, and please excuse my stupidity! :-[   Thanks!

Yea, let it out a little bit by breaking the lock nut loose then adjusting the adjustor nut on the cable. Be sure to tighten the lock nut back down tight so you dont end up re adjusting it on the trail.

The lock nut on mine was missing. I never knew there was supposed to be one, so I put one on there because I was tired of it loosening up.

Thanks, Zukipilot! There seems to be a lot of knowledge at this forum. I'll crawl under there tomorrow.

take a look at this post at Ack's FAQ for more information on that bracket:

Admittedly, the post is for the Samurai, but the Tracker/Sidekick does have the same basic arangement. Just "flop" the graphic image (the sidekick cable moves from right-to-left instead of left-to-right) in the above post. The specifications listed should be pretty close to the Sidekick. ÂÂ
For best operation, you must make both adjustments!
Hope this helps!
