Title: Service Engine Soon Light + Low Rough Engine Idle
Post by: Loyal on March 17, 2006, 02:56:32 AM
Yesterday afternoon I started my Kick (97 4 dr) and the Service Engine Soon Light came on.  The idle dropped to approx 800 rpm (according to stock tack) and was really rough.  She drove home ok.

This AM she started fine, the light still on and the idle wenk back to normal.  When I got to work it was back hovering around the 800 mark.

COmments on what this could be?  Im looking at getting an engine code reader today.

Pull the wires off of the spark plugs and see if they are arching over to the valve cover. I have had this happen on a few sets of spark plug wires. The wires rub where they insert into the Valve cover and then spark out. I've even had a cheap set do it out of the box (not insulated enough)

Check timing as well.

Im in the process of tracking down a code reader, if not too expensive.

Would the timing just "go off" all of a sudden??
