so one of my friends dad tells me he has this tracker that he needs to get out of his friends yard. he tells me that it has a new clutch and a new head . so i jump at the chance to have a spare truck for parts and get it towed to my work. i guess i should have gone and looked at it first but it was 45 minutes from my house. one look at the pictures and i need say no more :-[ :-[

Hah, been there, done that. Anything salvageable or did you leave it?
-
Ha Ha Ha! :o Good score (for the guy who got rid of it)!
Actually, a free parts rig is a FREE PARTS RIG! Do you have a place to keep it until the body finishes rotting off?
BTW, looks like some beautiful country where you're at.
-
Hell, you don't need no stinking body.. think of all the spare mechanical parts!!! Drool..
you Tracker is half full, not half empty!!! I would jump at grabbing that up, even if I just stripped and ebayed it!!
-
i tried to push it into the shop today but the back wheels are siezed. i should be able to salvage the cylinder head and i would like the diffs and front cv's. it is an 89 tracker with 5 spd and fuel injection so i'm not to sure what the gear ratio's will be. i might go back to the shop later and try to get it inside tonight. it sure is a P.O.S!
i live in whistler bc canada - and that is the whistler mountain ski runs you can see in the back of the picture.

It's got 5.12 ring and pinions
It's the same year as mine, as
long as it's 4WD that's a good deal.
Get one of those small sand blasters,
blow away all the rust, Rustoleum is your
friend, just don't plan on using any other
paint than Rustoleum, other paints don't
stick well to it.
I bet the back brake shoes are rusted to the
drums from the E-brake being set for years.

I'm with Wild and Quadd... ...play around with it a bit. Is the frame sound? It might be a trail rig in the rough.
-
You might see trash but I see a good start for a rockstar project! ;)

OH YEA...I've seen worse. Just power washed and fiddled with it for a bit and see if you can get it running before you wright it off.
MAN, you've got your self a sweet start for a trail rig if nothing else! Trees don't care how pretty your rig is anyway.....lol

so i went back to work after having a beer and thinking about it and pushed the thing into the shop. it has been sitting out in the rain and snow with no roof on it for about a year now so needless to say the body is very rusty! my thoughts at first were to make it into a cheap trail rig - but i think the first bump and the body would fall off the frame. after a closer inspection under the hood it seems to have had an electrical fire - lots of melted wires and such. the wiring under the dash is very corroded in many spots. it would be just to much work to get it to run. i managed to salvage the front hubs, diff and housing, rad, cylinder head(looks new), both drive shafts, both rear axles, and rear diff. i might take the engine and tranny out but the car has 445,000km's :o so not to sure of there condition.

ps - it was fun to smash some holes and kick in some panels while i was working on it. maybe we'll keep it around the shop for a few days to take out frustations on :)

that truck is in better shape then the one i'm putting together and mine cost me a cd player!!
get it running and take it jumping, just a thought...
-
the truck was owned by a courier company hence the mileage(445000km's). if the electrical wasn't so bad i probably would have made it into a trail truck. i was talking to the old owner today and the tranny is no good so thats why it was taken off the road. i'll just keep my eye out for an another one.

I might be getting a 1982 toyota 4wd truck with a bad trans for free. I talked to the kid that told me about it, and he said his dad didnt want to give it away, so I said I would offer him $200 for it. I have yet to hear back from him, so I am not sure what its status is. On your rust o matic tracker, take a cutting torch, welder, and lots of scrap metal and make a mad max style rig. It would for sure keep the snobby people in their expensive cars at bay.
