My wife and I went for a little ride in my Tracker today. We eventually got on the interstate even though I avoid them lately. I couldn't hold 70 so I just put it in 4th and set the cruise at 60. I hate driving slow but what the heck it's Sunday right. After about 15 miles of 4000 rpm noise |removethispart|@ 60 MPH I decide to take the old highway that runs along the freeway and take an exit. As I come off the exit I see a muddy Z71 and a quad sitting in one of those park and ride lots by the interchange. They are watching me go by and I look past them and see a muddy two track that leads to some big hills with trails up them. I quick through a u turn and head back. My wife says, "What's up?" I just say, "mud and hills". ;D Any way I head past the truck and quad and into the mud. It was a soft, wet mix of clay and sand. In seconds my nice clean Tracker was a moving mud ball. I got back to the hills and they were fun. Some really steep stuff. A few minutes later the Z71 and quad joined me. I would watch the truck try to climb stuff and have to back down. As soon as he got out of the way I would crawl up it like nothing. It was a blast. (sorry no pics).
Anyway, get this. We get back on the interstate and suddenly my Tracker is a race car. I'm driving 85 MPH in 5th gear and holding steady. Even in the hills I leave it in 5th and it only slows about 5 MPH. What the heck? I end up driving another 40 miles on the freeway and was passing everyone. Any ideas why it suddenly can take on the highway?
The only thing that happened different than usual was that once the hubs (stupid auto hubs) ingaged hard while backing through a rut with a big bang noise. At first I thought I broke the 3rd but everything appeared ok.
So now I am afraid to wash it. I can't see out anything but my windshield but I can hit 90 MPH. ??? ;D :o ???

it just goes to show you that suzuki's are just meant to be muddy and that they will love you for it! ;D

I told my wife the same thing. ;D She didn't believe me because hers is always clean and performs great. Seriously though I am puzzeled by it all. I drive mine everyday and it sucks on the highway...until now. ?????

Hello,
I hate to say this but it's just like two dogs fighting....Z-71 vs Tracker.
Now the Tracker thinks it's a bad azz ;D
Or may-be the Z-71 lost it's balls and the tracker picked them up!!!LOL

Its because of the extra momentum your vechicle has gained. I would say it has to do with the extra weight added to your wheels but it could be many things. Just remember your stoping distance has been demolished.

ROFLMS :D
That is exactly what I was thinking... the Tracker is now like one of those lap dogs who tangles with a doberman and wins. Your Tracker now has a swagger that everyone will notice.
BTW, who cares if it's dirty if your top speed is higher? ;D
-
Whenever I haul a-- past slower cars on the freeway, I get dirty looks. Probably because everyone underestimates the trackick.
-
When I pass people in the Goblin I get dirty looks too... especially when I hit a pothole and big clumps of dried mud fly all over the place! LOL!
-
I usually find I can't go very fast at all because all the mud stuck to the rims makes the wheels way out of balance.

Thats what usually happens. But sometimes is can reverse and cause the vehicle to gain momentum. This makes the vehicle pick a greater amount of speed, easier!
-
Maybe the mud filled in the "non-aerodynamic" grooves that your vehicle has, like the grille, the headlight edges, the hood edges, etc. Made it faster by that perhaps??
I just got a new skid plate on mine, so i'm expecting an extra 3-4mpg out of the aerodynamics....

I think these Trackers just like mudding! My 95 had the check engine light on when I bought it (but no bulb so I didn't notice at the time). Wouldn't show a code, though. After a couple of months, I took it out and wheeled the crap out of it over hills and through mud. The light went out while I was wheeling and stayed out!
Maybe the longer and muddier you wheel it, the faster it goes. Try staying longer next time and see how fast you are going home! ;)

lol thats awesome were you reving the motor alot you prolly cleaned out all the carbon and sludge in the motor is it a high milage motor?
-
I don't think I ever have a carbon build up. I'm a red liner my nature. Usually shift at 5500-6000. There is something weird going on with it though. Yesturday I took it to town, 70 mile round trip, 40 of that where on the highway. Some of the time it acted sluggish again even though hills or wind was not involved. Almost like a brake is dragging, but when I check them out they are fine. Today I'm jacking it up and checking out the wheel bearings. It's driving me nuts what ever is doing it. Especially now that I know it has the capacity to go faster even with the big tires.

Make sure you check the fuel filter... I mean, I am sure you thought of that.. but jouncing them around off road can dislodge a "film" of crud, sometimes. I had an Astro that acted like that sometimes.. ended up being a darned fuel filter and I had just overlooked it... (then the pump went out.. which is common too, after trying to push fuel through a clogged filter for a while)

maybe you have a hub thats hangin up ,,just wondering cuz you said it made a big bang,, so thats wht makes me think it might be a hub..( :)
-
I don't think it's related to mud ;D
I find some days, my tracker doesn't run as well as other days, and some days it's like driving a sports car ;D
-
I must have got a female Tracker. Moody. So far though talking dirty always turns her on. ;) ;D
I will check out some of these suggestions to see if I have a hub issue or fuel filter problem, etc.
