Title: "Jumping Out Module" for Engine Codes

Yesterday I was informed that a engine code reader for my 97 will cost around $150 bones - Canadian.  I have yet to confirm.

I know that with older Trackkicks a "module" in the engine bay can be jumped with a piece of wire to make the codes show up on the dash.

Is that possible with a 97 or do I have to buy the code reader to find out what is wrong.

It should be possible, theres some diagnostic info on suzukiinfo.com that might help. The 'module' is just a connector, usually a 6 pin plug on the later models.

I don't know if anybody does it in your area, but around here, we have a chain of auto parts stores called "Auto Zone" that advertises that they will read out your codes for free...

I've taken them up on the offer several times, and occasionally, I've actually bought parts from them...

I don't think it exists on your vehicle because 96 and up they went OBD II. 95 and earlier are OBD I.

Would that make the 1989-90 an OBD 0

From what I've seen (at least in the UK) later models have both. The Jimny certainly has and thats an 03, the connector under the dash is OBDII but the earlier 6 pin type diagnostic connector is still under the bonnet. The FSM gives the OBD codes as before. I've not seen an FSM for a GV, someone on here must have one though?
